Does anybody else feel like a new design of the Cybertruck is a “slow boil” of a frog? The initial vision is a large truck with a stainless steel body bent in right places and a unicast that transfers the load from the frame to the body of the truck. It looks massive, impressive, and cyber… Glass is able to withstand rocks, sides the bullets and it seats 6. Moreover, it is going to be so cheap to produce and the range will kick such an ass(500 miles), that it will be a game changer and disruptive for existing truck market. New Cybertruck is the aluminum cast with the raw unambiguous stainless steel plate panels that are thin, unbend, cut the skin, fastened to aluminum cast, smaller truck in size, standard glass that cracks left and right based on feedback, price tag out of this world and nothing but problems. I am a die hard fan for Tesla but I am feeling like something is just wrong between what I have being waiting for 5 years and what is offered. Does anybody else realizing what is happening? Or we are just ready to jump on any grenade as long as it say “Cybertruck” in Tesla’s font on it?

You can see it that way, sure.

I have driven mine 20k miles and the experience is unlike anything else on the road. I don’t even drive my M3P anymore…

Would def buy it all over again. ??‍♂

But if the prototype-to-production reality upsets you, go find something you like. ?

I see your point. I think it's fine for you to hold this opinion because it is what Elon 'promised'.

It's my opinion that Elon and Tesla showed the CT much earlier than they should have. I know for a fact that I never believed the 500m range promise and that the truck would cost 40k or w/e it was. I also was sure that there would be a ton of changes along the way. Covid shook things up too. So quite honestly, I'm shocked that the truck is real at all.

Despite the fact that a lot has changed. I have chosen to try to keep things in perspective.

The media (social and commercial) has a tendency to fetishize the sensational. This means that the tiniest problems will rise to the top espeically if the news cycle is slow.

Realistically, this is the 5th vehicle that Tesla has brought to market (unless you count the Roadster). You could even say that the Y and 3 are so similar that the should count as one. Tesla is still cutting its teeth as a OEM and it truly has been impressive to watch them improve their vehicles and turn a profit doing so (not a lot of OEMs make profit on vehicle sales). Just traded up from a '21 M3LR to a '24 M3LR and the difference in fit and finish is astounding. The Cybertruck will get better as it transitions out of FS.

Remember that almost every model that Tesla has released has been pretty high priced too.

“Nothing but problems”.. let me guess your source - legacy media or people posting issues in the forum? Vast majority of Cybertruck owners are really happy. It’s been 8 months since the release. There will be early adopter issues, and it’s important for people to talk about it, but media blows these out of proportion - rust, catching fire, bricked in the middle of nowhere, panel gaps, broken casting.. the list is long. The real question is what percentage of users had these problems, and how that number compares to other manufacturers? How many people broke the casting from towing? Literally one YouTuber after trashing CT to the core? Casting actually didn’t break but that’s how it was shown. How many were bricked? 2 or 3? How many recalls? Do you know how many recalls traditional trucks had in last one year. Nobody knows as nobody makes that a big news. Those articles won’t get much clicks. I’m not saying we should burry our head in sand and pretend everything is awesome. It’s important to see things for real based on data, and data says Cybertruck is kicking ass.

Tesla has hit the best sweet spot in terms of dimensions, design, price, battery capacity, range, specs, and innovative features. A little bigger Cybertruck, most wouldn’t have been able to fit in standard garage. A bit more material, range and price would have been compromised. The design might hardly change in the next 4-5 years! The only thing Tesla has to worry about is ramping up the production without compromising the build quality and price. Cybertruck is a magnificent machine. If you don’t believe, go test drive one! ?

The production cybertruck is definitely not the prototype vehicle Mr. Musk and Mr Van Holtzen promised in 2019… but there are a lot of factors that play into that.

the engineers solved many of the problems that they were presented with, but some that could not be solved… such as “500 mile range”.

mr. musk likes to aim for the stars and puts extreme pressure on his engineers to achieve a result that is still more often than not well above average, and often time cutting edge.

CT is still a cutting edge vehicle for many reasons.

I was at the reveal and rode in the prototype. In order to ride in the prototype, I had to stand in line for 2 hours, so I watched the Cybertruck prototype carefully for a long period of time.

Although the size of the production Cybertruck was only reduced slightly, it's very noticeable. The prototype was an absolute beast in terms of size that it's hard to describe in words. It dwarfed the Model X like it was a subcompact.

The announcement and reveal of the Cybertruck also seemed to indicate that the exterior was going to be a true exoskeleton. Sadly, the production version is truly just a stainless shell over a traditional body. In fact, it's only glued or taped on (depending on the panels or strips).

I haven't yet purchased or had delivered a Cybertruck yet, but I did rent one for 24 hours and drive it for an extended period of time.

I think it's a pretty righteous, valiant, and forward-thinking vehicle. Yes, it's not as good as the Cybertruck prototype we were shown, but it's far better than most other EV trucks on the road at the moment.

It's also important to keep in mind that at the reveal in 2019, we were never promised four wheel steering and drive by wire. Those features alone are pretty darn impressive.

I've had mine for +4000 miles over 3 months, and no, I do not feel in any way duped or disappointed. Despite the differences from what was shown in 2019, the Cybertruck has exceeded my expectations. For the first couple of years of waiting, I honestly didn't think it would ever come out and I thought if it did, the design would have gotten boring-squished by homogenization and ended up being a CyberF150TacomaRAMerado. But that didn't happen. It went through some changes, but the original concept was honored to a large degree.

Calling design and specs changing over time "boiling the frog" is a silly way to think about it in my opinion. They showed their concept, then made adjustments and tweaks over time. The reality of production is that you have to make sacrifices, changes, alterations, compromises to bring your product to fruition and be a success, while avoiding running out of money in R&D hell or scrapping the project. I can tell you that the Cybertruck that they finally launched after all this time has ruined all other vehicles for me.

Go test drive one and tell us what you think.

I don't think he analogy is right. Says things are slowly getting worse but we just don't notice. Every new vehicle has initial production issues. Definitely Tesla, but also everyone else. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "never buy the first model year of a car." That has been wisdom for decades. Now consider the CT has 10X the new features added that any other manufacturer would dream of attempting on a new vehicle. Frankly, it is surprising there aren't more problems.

I put down my deposit on Nov 29th, 2019 and accepted CB order May 8th, 2024. I stopped watching every YouTube video produced about 45 days ago whether it was favorable or unfavorable for CT.

My reasoning is I trust my decision to purchase and don't need to second guess my reasoning and want to experience delivery day without all the hype from outside. I purchased for my own reasons, and they have not changed.

Expected delivery date is Oct to Dec, 2024. No VIN yet, since I last checked.

Tesla didn't promise anything, it was a concept vehicle and said very plainly that "features and price may change".

Basically, "We would love to do this" but reality of production sets in. Not unexpected, I didn't think for a minute they would hit all those marks ...

They missed some and added others, totally normal and expected from concept to production.
