Waymo has been testing autonomous taxis in Austin for months. The service is now open to "certain members of the public". Don't know the timeline for general availability, but I suspect they will make the announcement before Tesla gets started.

Waymo is already available to the general public in SF, LA, and Phoenix areas.

Yes, congrats to Waymo and Google! I took a Waymo ride in San Francisco a couple of months ago - a bit slow, expensive, and the driving is very robotic and jerky compared to Tesla FSD.

The Tesla Robotaxi network will be at a completely different scale than Waymo.

The last I heard Waymo has about 700 vehicles total, across all cities and markets.

Tesla already has 7 million vehicles in its fleet, and each one can become a self-driving Robotaxi with one over the air update.

In addition, Tesla will make millions of Cybercabs starting next year, it will probably make more than 700 Cybercabs in one day.
