Some general questions. The CT will be my first EV.

-Virginia requires an annual state safety inspection. This requires the vehicle to go to an approved garage, where the CT would be placed on a lift for tire removal and brake inspection. Are Tesla owners comfortable with going to a generic mechanic shop for this or should one plan to return to a Tesla SC for the annual inspection?

-What, if any, are the concerns or precautions when putting the CT on a lift? Are there prescribed jack points under the tesla tuck?

-When accepting delivery of a new CT, are the SC's drilling holes in the bumper for mounting the front license plate?

-What else? Are there any surprises or lessons learned? (I plan to use the Richmond SC for delivery.)

-Are most Virginia EV owners just paying the flat rate annual state use tax or tracking miles?

Thanks!

  • Anyone can screw up service, Tesla included. Use a garage that you trust, or just hold your nose and cross your fingers. There's nothing magical about Cybertruck lugs and wheels.
  • Tesla sedans require external "pucks" for lifting, but not the Cybertruck. It has designated jack points marked. It should be first placed in "Jack Mode" to prevent the air suspension from trying to auto-level.
  • The SCs hand you your keycards and slap your ass "good luck!". The front plate uses a mounting bracket with self-tapping screws for the plate, and threaded bolts for the bracket.

Anybody have a drink? I just threw up a little in my mouth.

Unfortunately, Maryland is also one of those front plate states... I'm not drilling any holes. BUT, the last time we put a front plate on a Tesla, we lost the plate and holder somewhere...

So... Cybertruck Front Plates... any favorites? (Yes, I can search but I don't always trust reviews on Amazon...)

I have this one, works great! A bit expensive, but outstanding quality. No drilling or double sided tape.

To elaborate, there is a dummy blank cover in the center of the front bumper that is removed by prying at the lower edge. This exposes the mounting points for the front plate holder (supplied by Tesla in states that require front plates). The process is entirely reversible by removing the plate holder and popping the dummy blank cover back into place.

My Delivery Specialist didn't slap my ass (and I was thankful for that!). He also didn't wish me "good luck", he seemed a bit envious and told me to enjoy my amazing truck!
