The cybertruck has had quite a few recalls but the service center has been great with fixing them. Plus, Tesla has been proactive in issuing the recalls rather than doing the "Fight Club" insurance comparison before issuing the recall. Could you imagine having to go through a dealer for fixes? It would be hell.

Oh yeah... I already know about going through a dealer for fixes because I used to own a newer Jeep Wranger and newer Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. My Jeep's engine blew at 30k miles due to an issue with coolant leaks. Never was informed of a recall. It took months to repair while I had a base model, dirty, older Kia as my replacement. The Pacifica was given an unlimited powertrain warranty because they eventually said it has so many problems, it will fail and we aren't sure how to fix it yet. It literally lost power steering and all power on the interstate yet not a blip about this recall in the news. So many software bugs. So many bugs with the hybrid power train. The rear screens break every time I turn the car on and the fix is to power off the car, remove the Bluray, power the car back on, and reinsert the Bluray. Stellantis is the worst. And the dealers CONSTANTLY say there isn't a problem or "we can't fix the recall because we don't have parts" and never provide status updates as to when they will get parts and say just keep driving it.

And what's the deal with Kia getting a hall pass in the media even though their cars can be easily stolen due to a cost saving measure? Granted they got SOME coverage but it was more about the crimes, not that the major flaw isn't really fixable and they issued steering wheel clubs as the fix! WTH!

Cars catch fire all the time but one Tesla gets ran over by a semi and catches fire and the news headlines are "Tesla explodes into flames!".

The new VW Buzz is getting glowing coverage but no one mentions the poor range, poor performance, high cost, and lack of features van owners would want.

Sorry. End rant. Reading headline after headline about the cybertruck recalls got me worked up. I need to unplug and do some offroading with it to unwind
Similarly, it will make the headline if a Tesla got into an accident and someone gets killed while nearly all the mainstream media keep silent about the fact that 40,000 people die of car accidents each year in the US, ~100 per day, ~5 every hour!

This is the true message and hope for FSD that should have been extolled at every opportunity instead of hopelessly mangling it with chainsaws and woodchippers. ?

The reason is the polarity of Tesla, currently people either LOVE or HATE the brand, which means when an article is published it will get more clicks due to that love/hate, as opposed to Kia which no one really feels strongly about.

Also in fairness some of these recalls the CT have had are on Tesla, you can't have an engineering team that is THAT good and let sloppy things go out the front door like the accelerator pedal and contrail glue.
Yes, but the reasoning of WHY there is such a divide with ONE CAR COMPANY is a bit unsettling...

But it shows that it's mostly POLITICAL in nature... It's one thing to not like a person (politically), but it's another to decide that the CARS they make are somehow 'bad' because of it...

If you think the FEW recalls (many just software updates) that the CT has had is a bad thing, then you better not look at the recalls for other trucks with some really DANGEROUS ones... Some telling you "do not drive" or "do not park in or near buildings" and such... Heck, there was just ANOTHER recall for the F150 for them... Like the 2004 model with 16 recalls, the 2005 with 12, the 2006 with 14, the 2021 with 22 AND it currently has a "URGENT: DO NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE" warning because the transmission may shift into neutral while driving, AND Trailer brakes may fail, AND Engine Intake valves may break, AND "Unexpected Activation of Electric Parking Break" AND Damaged Driveshaft may fracture" and a whole lot more!! That's all just for the F-150 Super Crew 4wd model... You know, a gas version that would compare to Tesla's Cybertruck (4 doors, AWD):
https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2021/FORD/F-150%2520SUPER%2520CREW/PU%252FCC/4WD#recalls

At least the CT doesn't have a "DO NOT DRIVE" for it...

OH, and keep in mind that FORD (like other big ones) FIGHTS every single one of the recalls and has a success rate of about 20%... Meaning that there's likely a few MORE things that ended up NOT being recalls... Tesla doesn't fight these too hard though, mostly they just say "Okay, we can fix that"... But for FORD it means fixing several MILLION vehicles for every recall and that costs a LOT of money, so they fight them pretty strongly...

For the CT to have 8 recalls with 3 of them being software update fixes, isn't all that bad really and now we know 2 of them have to do with bad 'glue' (trim and accelerator pedal) and are EASIELY fixed... I'll take the CT over the F150 any day!

My personal experience is much different. I have Ford Lightning, Cybertruck and older Tesla X. Tesla service for my CT is horrible, especially for someone who lives 4+ hours from nearest Tesla service center (vs. Ford dealers which are everywhere). Ford has also issued a number of proactive recalls for Lightnings for minor things and it's really easy to actually call a live person at my local deal, schedule an appointment and have it taken care of quickly. Trying calling and talking to a live person at Tesla! And they won't even send parts to me, but instead insist that I drive 9 hours round trip to pick up a part that's very simple to install.
Every Tesla recall is proactive and self initiated.

Talking to a live person is overrated and rarely accomplishes anything over what you could do by scheduling via the app.

I've only used service twice in six years of owning Tesla's, but the process was easy both times. Tell them what the issues is (via app), pick a service date (via app), drop off, use the loaner, and pick your vehicle up.

As far as talking to live person, its not that hard, but again, not necessary. I called the service center in Austin, told them my daughter would be picking up my wheel covers. They set up a "dummy" appointment over the app, and she picked them up that day. It was supposed to be an "in person" process, but they took care of it.

Yeah. As people refer to our Tesla vehicles as swasticars everyone at VW is sitting back in disbelief and then going….”fuck yeah, swasticars, how do you all like that?”
History is not without a sense of irony it seems.

I agree for the most part, I think one of the problems that is happening with the CT is that some people reserved, waited, and LOVED the truck for 5 years. Then were furious when it came out at so much of a higher price, half the range, no tailgate etc. Having something that does not work out is one thing, but anticipating and planning on it for 5 years then getting rug pulled is another so that converted some people unfortunately.

Totally agree on the F150, except maybe a gas one if I have to tow.

Well, we were not surprised to see the price increase so much... I mean first of all, inflation was CRAZY HIGH over the past 4 years... Plus, we all know that if someone says something is going to cost $100 they REALLY mean it's going to cost $125...

As to the range, well, almost the same thing... My Dodge Charger SAID it would get 19 in the city and 30 on the freeway... eeeeehhhhh... Sorry, nope... I got about 15 around town and the BEST I would get on the freeway was 25 mpg... (the charger has a 5.7 Hemi)

And it only got 25 mpg because of the MDS engine (which shuts down 4 cylinders when not needed for power/speed...) so it would get 35 sometimes and 15 others... or, close enough...

In any case, I drove 88 miles per day (round trip commute) on about 65% highway and the rest on city streets... I AVERAGED 23mpg... Not horrible at all for a big block Hemi...

But, as far as towing goes, I would use the CT still... Just keep the speed down to 55 like you're supposed to (in CA at least) and your range won't be too bad... Your F-150 probably gets lousy mileage when towing too (I know MINE did when I had one)... About Half as much as I recall... It's about the same with a CT... It is (or was) easier to get 'fuel' though when compared to a CT with trailer... That can be a challenge... BUT, now that they can identify which chargers are good for 'trailering', you can setup your nav to find and use those instead... AND they are putting in more and more every month!
