I did not get that far in the manual!..too busy driving it!.Did you read/see the section of the service manual on what Tesla recommends? They provided a lot of details.

That said...it's not specific enough advise..it is too generic...like saying 'apply paint carefully'...
Graining metal is a craft and artform...get a skilled person..pay them.
..??..if you can hammer out your own car dents....then you have the skill to matching re-graun your $100,000 exotic electric space truck...
IMO: an orbital sander is the last resort!..just consider what damage a polisher does to paint with only polishing compound!..if you push too hard, or dwell in one spot too long...
What to do depends on if it is a scratch or a gouge...
Always start with a finer grit !..too coarse a grit will make scratches, that you'll have work out.
3M Scotch pads are very likely what tesla uses..not sand paper.
Practice on the inside frunk lid...if you really want to do it yourself.
The cb panels are not perfectly flat...so a sanding block or orbital sander disc will hit the high spots and make the surface uneven..
I am sure there will be YouTube videos on how to re-grain / surface your CT.
Experience metal finish guys like me will tell you : it is EASIER to polish than to grain metal...you HAVE to know the exact process..
Good luck !
