I had my windows tinted today it looks so much better. 20% on the front and 70% on the back. I'm still trying to find center caps that match the wheels better than what I got on Amazon. I would love to find some Tesla direct ones, but they aren't listed on their website.

That looks sharp! I am in Texas and need tinting soon.
Does anyone know what the legal limit (percent) on the front windows? I want them dark as possible.

25% front windows. Less than that and it’s a $250 fine or more.

I don't live in TX this is what AI says.

Texas tint laws regulate how dark and reflective window tint can be on vehicles to ensure safety and visibility for drivers and law enforcement. These rules apply to all vehicles, with some exceptions, and are based on Visible Light Transmission (VLT), which is the percentage of light that must pass through the tint and glass. Here’s a breakdown of the current Texas window tint laws as of February 25, 2025:

### Tint Darkness Limits
- **Windshield**: You can apply a non-reflective tint above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line (usually marked near the top of the windshield) or the top 5 inches, whichever is lower. This tint must allow at least 25% VLT, meaning it can’t be too dark.
- **Front Side Windows** (driver and passenger side): These must allow more than 25% VLT. So, the tint can’t block more than 75% of the light coming through.
- **Back Side Windows**: No limit on darkness—any VLT is allowed.
- **Rear Window**: Any darkness is fine if the vehicle has outside mirrors on both sides that let the driver see 200 feet behind. Without those mirrors, it must allow at least 25% VLT.

### Reflectivity Rules
- **Front Side Windows**: Cannot be more than 25% reflective.
- **Back Side Windows**: Also limited to 25% reflectivity or less. Excessive reflectivity can create glare for other drivers, which is why this rule exists.

### Additional Regulations
- **Restricted Colors**: Red, blue, and amber tints are not allowed on any windows. These colors can confuse other drivers or mimic emergency vehicle signals.
- **Side Mirrors**: If the rear window is tinted darker than 25% VLT, the vehicle must have dual side mirrors for safety.
- **Certification**: Tint film sold in Texas must be certified by the manufacturer to meet state standards.
- **Sticker**: A label or sticker identifying the tint as legal must be placed between the film and glass on the driver’s side window.

### Exemptions
- **Medical Exemptions**: If you have a medical condition (like sensitivity to sunlight), you can get a signed statement from a licensed physician or optometrist explaining why you need darker tint on the front side windows. This must stay in the vehicle for proof during stops or inspections. The windshield rules still apply, though—no darkening below the AS-1 line or 5-inch mark.
- **Special Vehicles**: Law enforcement vehicles, ambulances, buses, taxis, and limousines may have different rules or exemptions due to their specific uses.

### Penalties
Breaking these laws can lead to fines starting at $20-$25 for a first offense, often as a "fix-it" ticket requiring you to remove illegal tint. Repeat violations can climb to $275 or more, including court costs, depending on the county.

These laws balance the benefits of tint—like UV protection and heat reduction—with the need for clear visibility. If you’re thinking about tinting your vehicle, it’s smart to check with a professional installer familiar with Texas regulations to avoid any hassle. Local counties might interpret the rules slightly differently, so confirming with your local DMV or police isn’t a bad idea either.

why do people do 70% on the rear when the windows are already tinted? 20% is the perfect percent for front windows, its a good balance of blacking out your windows and still have optimal visibility.

Tinting the rear side windows to help match the front tint's VLT (Visible Light Transmittance). Rear windows were metered at 24.9%. Adding 70% to the rear would equate to 17% VLT.

Front window has a slight tint, so adding 20% to the front would at least have a closer match w/ the tinted rear side windows.
