Where there's a will, there's a way.

  • Someone has already demonstrated a bed that fits cross-wise over in the back seat area. Not quite wide enough for some, but plenty big enough for others.
  • While there have been a number of homebrews, one company is about to produce an air extender that can take the air from the cab and redirect into the bed.
  • There are a variety of portable AC solutions that can be installed/configured to cool the bed. Many options appear with the 120V outlets.
  • And there are lay flat mattresses of different thicknesses already available.
And many would suggest that most of these are far superior to sleeping in a Model Y, with it's ot quite flat sleeping space.
And in the Cybertruck, there's still a lot of space to keep your belonging under lock and key.
I just thought of another idea: someone makes an inflatable mattress whose bottom is textured to sit on top of the center console and seats when they are fully reclined back.

Only problem is if that leaves enough headroom for you to move around/not feel claustrophoic when you're on the mattress.

On second thought, after looking at a photo of the seats fully reclined back...they don't get even close to flat enough for this modified air mattress idea to play. They would have to fold flat frontwards, like the R2 seat.

I've been a Cybertruck reservation holder since december 2019 and have been a Model Y owner since oct 2021. One of my favorite features of my Model Y is that it's great for road trips and for car camping. Combing all of the trips I've taken, I've probably spent ~2 months sleeping in my Model Y since I got it.

In comparing the Cybertruck to the R1S (the only other EV I'd consider upgrading to at this point) the Cybertruck is better than the R1S in every metric, except for this lack of car camping support. There's no pass-through or midgate, so you can't move A/C from the cab into the bed, where there is a long, flat surface for you to lie down. The fact that the Cybertruck is worse than the Model Y I already own for Car Camping is pretty disappointing.

that said, I do think there is a clear potential fix, for there is enough room in the Cybertruck cab for you to lie down flat...if the Cybertruck front seats were to fold down flat, a feature that we see Rivian is putting in the R2 and R3. Not only would this create enough room, but it would arguably make the CT better than the Model Y because with the front seats folded down, you'd have clearer access to the touchscreen from your bedding area.

I'm putting the question out there if anyone else has thought of this as a "potential fix" to the Cybertruck car camping problem, and how feasible it would be to pursue this fix. Is it possible to modify existing Cybertruck seats so they could fold flat like this? What about developing an aftermarket seat that could be installed as a replacement?

curious what you all think.
Rivian just eliminated these from the R2.

Here is a solution for AC & heat in the bed.
