I wouldn't worry about anyone in the Cybertruck, designing the bed to break away when impacted reduces forces on the passenger compartment. Look how intact the Cybertruck's passenger compartment is. It performed admirably and as designed. A real testament to the engineers. The Mercedes is unsafe at any speed, it's like a heavy battering ram.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Cybertruck is ridiculously strong but also extremely well designed to self-sacrifice and protect the passengers. Such a magnificent machine! This crash is indeed a testament to it.

I'll be honest, I can't see the "shear point" as being an intentional part of the CT design. The risks of the truck splitting apart are too great to make up for possibly reducing the forced to the occupants if the bed is struck in a very specific way

I'm sure that as soon as the bed separated, you'd get instant malfunctions across the truck and could lose things like steering, braking, acceleration, etc., and you risk things like coolant or the battery spilling/catching on fire

Not to mention that if the truck were moving when it got hit/t-boned, you're then forced to try and control the cab portion while the rear portion is dragging on the floor

Maybe I'm wrong, but it just doesn't sound right

The alternative is far more fatal. If the bed doesn’t give away, the passengers will be pulled into the impact. At such high impact, forget about steering or breaking. You will have no control on anything. The primary objective will be to protect vital body parts to survive the impact. What’s more important when this type of impact happens? Turning on the headlight or protecting the head from getting crushed? ?

Crazy I walked by that Cybertruck about 30 minutes before the accident. I noticed it because of the branding on it.

There are over 4 bus controllers. Even split, you would still be able to steer and drive the front tires, maybe even the rears if the cables were still intact. The batteries are under the occupant section so the split didn’t involve the batteries.

There are over 4 bus controllers. Even split, you would still be able to steer and drive the front tires, maybe even the rears if the cables were still intact. The batteries are under the occupant section so the split didn’t involve the batteries.

Didn't realize the batteries were all tucked under the cabin, thought they went further back a bit. Thanks for the info

Batteries need to be protected, from massive damage which would trigger fiery decomposition!

The vault cover storage, compressed air system, and motors are under the bed. None of these would have a fiery death in being crumpled.

I never had any interest before this very moment; but, maybe I want a G Wagon now. ?

They are great. I bought a new one a few years back as likely my last non-weekend only gas car. Amazing V8 soundtrack and the cabin isn’t too bad either. I’d buy again for sure.
