What was your typical cruising speed?

I keep it between 55 and 60 for both efficiency, range, and safety (in my opinion, it’s safest to tow at that speed regardless of rig. Stopping distance, reaction times, etc. Especially with a baby on board.) Now, I say that, but there are rare times I’ll get it up to 70 when everything is looking good and I know I’m good on range.

When you put in the destination does the GPS account for the reduced milage because you are towing? I would assume it gives you closer charging stations?

Yes it does account for reduced mileage, but for whatever reason the stock software isn’t very accurate when assuming final range. ABRP seems to be very close. But I rely heavily on my own math. We just finished our return trip. At one of the stops, the car told me I was ready to continue at 65% charge. It’s like it forgets I’ve been towing. I knew 65% was way off and went to 95%. Made it to my final stop with 6% battery. When I started the final leg, The car told me I’d have 34% when I arrived, it gradually adjusted, but that’s not very helpful. But my math was solid so I really had no anxiety about it. Felt good.

We definitely noticed your rig when you were doing that long charge at the Yemassee SC Wendy’s. Very savvy how you pulled in laterally to the charger on the end! Was also very curious about the range, so thanks for the info.
(We brought our Cybertruck down from NYC to Florida—with two large white Golden Retrievers aboard, visiting some sites along the eastern seaboard. 435 Wh/mi highway and local so far, with preconditioning consuming some of that…)

You spotted us!? Very cool. Yeah we had a lot of creative anglings this trip. Amazing didn’t inconvenience anyone (we’re always ready to move and unhook if the location gets busy). Now that I think of it, I think we saw your Goldens. My wife is an animal nurse, so she enjoyed watching them.

we just got home. Averaged 795 Wh/mi on the return trip.

Awesome stuff! Glad to hear there are more pull-throughs coming along - it's hit or miss in the south and I've gotten quick at unhitching.

How are you finding the trailer range estimates where you enter the heigh/width/length/weight? the truck seems to way overestimate and thinks I'm going to burn around 1100wh/mi, when I usually get around 720-880wh/mi depending if I go 60mph-75mph. It doesn't seem to adjust for the coefficient of drag unique to each trailer. I had to tell it my trailer was a weightless 1ft cube so it would stop trying to reroute me. I calculate my wh/mi and percentages by hand on each charging stop so I can figure out exactly how much I need to charge so I can reach my next stop with a minimal 5-10% buffer and optimize my charging curve. Fingers crossed we'll get better range estimates with future updates.

I'm at 17k miles and around 20% of those have been towing my airstream basecamp. I installed a Shocker hitch which dampens trailer jerk a bit. Another benefit is it seems to add just enough length (maybe an inch or two) to where I can fully lock the steering wheel without risk of the trailer hitting my tailgate in sharp turns where the rear steering kicks in. Really comes in handy maneuvering crowded parking lots. Only downside is I had to dremel out a square so the airbag would clear the lower valance.

I actually got the option for that trailer-info update on this trip, but I don’t do software updates on road trips. Hate I missed testing it on this trip.

Not really. I towed our camper now 7,000 miles. Math gets easier. You can use the truck range as a guide but at first it is not very good. No FSD kinda sucks when towing. I have not towed since October and I don’t think Version 13 was even out yet.
My camper is super aero efficient. Averaged 601 watts per miles over the 7,000 miles. It is about 3,200 pounds single axle. Alto A2124 and is 22’

I'd read that FSD works if you turn off trailer mode. But that likely screws up too much with a big trailer.

nope. tried it. The truck also goes automatically into trailer mode when you have any load connected to it even if you don't plug in the cable.

Would you mind sharing the exact model you purchased? I assume it was "Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Ball Mount - 2" Ball - 2" Hitch - 8-1/2" Drop - 10K". Also could you share a picture of the cut you made into the plastic?
