In a hypothetical scenario for example you were going from Houston to Denver and were not in a hurry, maybe you are retired, would you take the cybertruck instead of the airlines. I had asked this question 3 years ago on a Tesla forum when FSD was not really a thing. I got mostly yes responses. So what say you?

I just did Scottsdale to Santa Fe and back with a Harley Davidson in the bed to deliver it to artist Clayton Porter (that he bought from me in a private sale) and the distance there and back is about 1,000 miles, roughly the same distance of Houston to Denver. FSD is incredible now that the neural network and Project Dojo are training based on human-driving example videos.

I would totally drive. And if I had more than 2 days I’d spend more time seeing the sights and local points of interest.

I am retired and I did a 3 day, 1,853 miles trip from Orlando to Denver and back. Took advantage of the free Supercharging. I used the time to listen to audio books, catch up on calls, and just relax and reflect. Since there were 3 of us on the trip, I also saved $1,500 in airline fares and another $400+ in airport parking fees. I did have to pay for 2 hotel nights each way, but traded points for all but one. If you have the time to make the drive, do it. Other than the crazy drivers in the big cites we had to pass through (Atlanta, Nashville, St. Louis, and Kansas City) the trip was easy.

Just did Dallas to Estes Park, Colorado over Christmas in the CT - 1600 miles plus a trip from Estes Park to Denver International to pick up our daughter (flying in from London). You can do it in a long day of driving, but we have reached the stage where the journey is part of the adventure. We took three days to get there and explored the cities at each stop and then stopped at different places on the way back to explore some more.

I regularly do MD to Cape Canaveral runs. The journey is as important as the destination. Enjoy the country at ground level.

For me it’s all about time. It’s a ratio of how long I’m going to be there. I drive from Denver area to Springfield Mo twice a year, and stay for about a week to two. Anything less than that becomes too much drive to stay time. I loose a 2 days of travel, there and back. To 5-7 days of stay. When I have to stay for less, I fly. But Iike having my vehicle with me, so I’ll do what I can to increase my stay time. I do look forward to the days when I can get out at the terminal, and my truck drives itself home, and then picks me up when I get back.

Edit: I’m all for “it’s not about the destination, it’s about the trip” but try driving through Kansas on i70. The worlds largest prairie dog isn’t even interesting the first time you see it.

We used to fly WestJet everywhere but got my first Tesla in 2019 and haven’t flown since. We take lots of holidays and have taken the teslas on everything from 4 month snowbird holidays to a 20,000 mile trip to nowhere in particular. My cybertruck is due in a few days and it starts all over again

Yeah if times not a major factor and you have two "drivers" you could basically FSD 24/7 to your destination.
Plan on going from Virginia to Vegas end of May this way.

With plane crashes becoming a regular occurrence nowadays, I'm considering going TX->NY and back over the summer. Two full days in each direction, tho. I'd feel better about it if I had the AS tires instead of AT.

For me, it's about losing vehicle value. I drove my Model 3 across the country 8 times or so, sold it with over 120K miles on the ODO. I want to do the same with my Cybertruck, but I'm worried about running down the warranty too fast, in case I have any problems.

Anywho. FSD did 99% of my driving the last few trips. I took over in parking lots and backed it into the stalls. It did the rest. One we have the option for high speed wifi charging pads to be install in our trucks, I think we'll be napping while they drive all night. (may be 2 or 3 hours of wireless charing per stop, but hey, we're sleeping, who cares)

if one is retired and bought Cybertruck, MX, MS-Tesla should offer free FSD and FSD half price for MY & M3. Tesla's mission is Sustainability and jet fuel has more Carbon footprint than regular fuel.

So far, airline incidents have not changed their rate. It was just a really long period between fatal airline incidents. Light aircraft, on the other hand, have fatalities on average, 2 out of every 3 days. They're just usually one pilot or couple passengers, so they don't get any news coverage.

Man, I love that idea, I'm 78 and own a 2021 Y and subscribe monthly to FSD. Because the Y has hardware 3 I'll never get the unsupervised FSD. I'm using that as one of the points to get the cybertruck, safety's safety safety. included in the justification is the recent NHTSA 5 star rating. A price of $72,500 with FSD vs. $80,500 will definitely help. And speaking of Jet Fuel did you ever notice the lingering smell around the airport on a hot summer day?
