Is this the cooling unit? Is it a peltier cooler?? There is also a fan. I'm having trouble pulling images off my thermal camera, but the seats appear to go sub-ambient temperature (and feel like it too).

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the seat heaters. Tesla is famous for using 1 cooling system to be able to cool and heat different parts of the car at the same time. It is quite ingenious.

To my eye, it looks like an independent fluid loop (not connected to the car), but I might be wrong.

Munro did a teardown of the seat, but didn't mention anything about the heating/cooling to my memory.

Interestingly I was looking at the Service Manual to try and figure it out and I found a page called "Front Seat Covers and Pads - Trim TRK 1R LH Front Seat Back Premium D4 (Remove and Install)"

It makes me think something about the seats will be an extra premium package above the base model.

You might be right that it is localized to the seat, but it could still be heating and pumping warm fluid locally.

Could be a pressure based occupant detection sensor.
