Took the DeLorean for inspection today.

  • Was followed by the owner of an exotic car shop to my destination so he could get a look
  • Got asked "hey is that your delorean" at least 5 times
  • Had to give a full tour of the car and complete backstory at least 3 times

I'm telling y'all, it's going to be the same for your Cybertrucks for at least the first year, maybe two. It will get worse if the truck gets featured in popular culture, like the DeLorean and BTTF.

The CT is going to be a very different animal, and a brand new animal.
The DeLorean was essentially a POS with a mediocre Renault engine designed by you know who.

CT is likely going to be an animal that will eat the Ford Motor company in entirety.

Largely because of perhaps the most technologically advanced electric engineering ever; the Model 3 motor.
The CT will be a big Fukyou for the entire Ford/Dodge/Chevy/Isuzu/Toyota world.
CT will be the dawn of a new age of motor vehicle, not a cute novelty.

I don't mind being asked, but I dread the thought of being asked too often.

Definitely for the first year.

I had an odd thought the other day. If they are selling for $100k+ in the dark markets when I get mine, might be the first and last time I drive a vehicle worth 6 figures.

Took about 6-9 months before my Model Y went from being unique and interesting to being background noise. Lightly used Rivians selling for about 5-10% over retail on the used market. I expect it’ll take 6-9 months before the used Cybertruck market calms down then it too will sell for a small premium until it is also background noise.

If your reservation is over 250k, you won’t have to worry about it, by the time you get yours they will be fairly common. Rivians are spotted fairly frequently now and there are only 20,000 of them on the road.

It’s the people with low reservations who will take the brunt.

If onlookers get too obnoxious, I'll ask them if they want to see the motor. I'll mount this turbine in the frunk and tell them it runs on pure hydrogen and that Elon gave it to me after he got tired of it and I showed interest in it. If they ask where I fill up I'll tell 'em hydrogen is easy to make at home using solar panels and electrolysis and that it's the future of EV's.
