This is a great new feature I have been looking forward to. It's a great start and I hope that the next update will allow the door to pop open automatically when you walk up to it like the Model X does.

Actually, interestingly enough, if you press the button to open the door, wait 30 seconds, the door attempts to close itself, albeit not all the way... so close! ;)

Wes from Tesla said they will not add the auto door pop to the CT because the door cannot close itself.
Curious, what does it matter if the door cannot close itself? Auto door pop would be beneficial as it saves a step of pressing the physical button and then opening the door. If you are presented with the door already open, it makes it pretty effortless.

You're right. IT does try to close itself. But doens't pull it shut like the X.

Still, I would like this walk-up feature as an option you can choose to do if you want it.

Because the door opens when you approach with Bluetooth and there are a lot of instances when the door wasn't intended to open. With the MX, it will just close when you leave BT range, the door will still be cracked with the CT.

It's not my perspective, that's the perspective from Tesla. He said he could see delivering door pop in the app like the 3/Y, but not automatically like the MX.

I find my door opening not always functioning when button is pressed. May have to push several times to open door.

Either a faulty button or an issue with your phone putting the Tesla app to sleep.

It's not really trying to close, it's retracting the plunger that holds it open.

Exactly. This happens even if you open it manually, the plunger goes back in after some time.

Because if you don’t open the door then the door is left open…unsecured

Same thing would happen with model X opening trunk with UWB enabled, you need to close it manually.

Long story short, you could disable the auto open door if you don't need it.
