Looking through my comment history will reveal that I am critical of Tesla when appropriate.

What I was commenting on is his unnecessary tattling about an extremely rare edge case event to the feds. Ridiculous. Tesla is already bound by law to report stuff like this anyway, as I said earlier.
You mean the same company that stonewalled an investigation and tried to hide things from plaintiffs during discovery, and the police to boot. Yeah that company is supposed to do a lot of stuff? Do they all the time. Doubt it. Not everyone is a perfect corporate citizen.

Tattling? Your resistance does not make a lot of sense. If you claim that Tesla will do it then there's literally no difference and no additional harm if the owner does it as well.

Plus if he gathers information now, it might be more useful from a first-hand account. When Tesla reports it they may not have all of the details.

Pure fantasy.

Then by all means, report it. Be sure to include all news outlets, both your congressman and senator, and the local newspapers.

Want to cover all the bases, of course.

I think you are reading too much FUD. Every recall I've seen from Tesla has been self reported. Read through them yourself.

The Federal government is investigating Tesla after numerous violations of their crash reporting policies. They're looking into why Tesla is slow to report data, if they're lacking information, and if they're omitting incidents.

I would say there is cause for distrust. Whether it's because of incompetence, deceit, or manipulation remains to be seen.

I'm assuming an errant deployment would be fully covered under warranty?
I’d imagine even if out of warranty. No car company wants to accidentally injure someone through normal use. Airbags can cause some serious injuries in situations like this.

While I don’t disagree, I doubt any other US or otherwise car maker is any less guilty of the same or similar. It’s all about the $$ except Tesla has Elon, which he brings along the political aspect whether you like it or not.

I have 3 Teslas now. Sold one of my S. 240k miles in one. 35k on cybertruck.
I've been in 30 states, charged about a thousand times. I have a little bit of experience. Including over 10k miles towing with CT.
Fact. Less than 10% of people post positive remarks about Tesla service.
This is a very significant event when an air deploys for no reason.
I totally agree a NTHSB report should be filed. It’s not about for or against Tesla, its about making sure the Cause is properly diagnosed. I wouldn’t leave it up to SC to report up the chain to ensure engineering is properly involved. Its best way to ensure there isn’t others.

I received my CT back from the service center, but with no clear indication of the root cause.
All items were replaced that were affected by the airbag deploying.
The SC said that all the components were sent to Tesla engineering for them to evaluate.
I requested the vehicle data from Tesla and it confirms what I experienced, that right after engaging the air conditioning system the airbag deployed.

See the image and video below:
- The vertical lines on the graph is where the digital signals triggered and best visualized by giving them large values instead of just the On or Off signal.
- Speed is in kph, Steering wheel angle in degrees with negative values equaling turning right.
- I'm not sure why the "RCM warning light status" is delayed by around 2 seconds.
- You can see the forward facing camera vibrate when the airbag goes off in the video.

I have driven it around 1400 miles since receiving it back with no issues.

p.s. - the Littleton, CO service center was excellent in their handling of the situation and for accommodating my needs. They have been the best SC I've encountered so far.
