I just had the driver side knee airbag deploy unexpectedly while driving though my neighborhood on the way to the store. I was passing between two parked vehicles and activated the climate control by pressing the temperature number, and simultaneously, the airbag deployed. Only the driver's knee airbag fired. It was still drivable, just warning me that there is an issue with the safety restraint system.
I have scheduled a service appointment (slot in ~10 days).
Anyone else experience this before ... ?

Whoa… fine FSD I will not select a more desired temperature for myself.

Very unfortunate, please post if there is some kind of diagnosis

While driving?! Man, i am glad you're ok! That would have scared the 💩 out of me while driving. Interested to hear how this happened if they tell you anything.

Best!

Wow, that sounds like what Takata airbags were doing due to the ammonium nitrate issues. NHITSA was heavily involved and there were millions of recalls. Hope this is a one-off.

The Takata recall was due to moisture contamination which resulted in higher activation pressure (explosion vs inflation) that would damage the inflator and turn it into to shrapnel. They weren't more likely to prematurely detonate.

I'm assuming an errant deployment would be fully covered under warranty?

No way to make this a secret thread to keep torque news from grabbing a hold of it😂
For the record, it’s never happened to me and I’ve never heard of it happening to anyone else.

Take pictures. File a report with NTHSB. Very important in case of another one.

Because Tesla won't do that on their own as required?

I see 99% negativity from your post history here.

I have 3 Teslas now. Sold one of my S. 240k miles in one. 35k on cybertruck.
I've been in 30 states, charged about a thousand times. I have a little bit of experience. Including over 10k miles towing with CT.
Fact. Less than 10% of people post positive remarks about Tesla service.
This is a very significant event when an air deploys for no reason.

We can be fans, and speak the truth as well. Tesla is not always shiny as a new penny each and every time for every customer. Pointing that out makes us all a little more informed and believable. So one could say wipe your chin with your rag as all your posts are Cybertruck love fests.

I hope you weren't injured? I've had an airbag deploy (in a crash) in a different vehicle and I had friction burns from where it hit my skin.

Looking through my comment history will reveal that I am critical of Tesla when appropriate.

What I was commenting on is his unnecessary tattling about an extremely rare edge case event to the feds. Ridiculous. Tesla is already bound by law to report stuff like this anyway, as I said earlier.
