I realized that the lights on the door opening buttons light up when I get close to the truck, so there is no technical limitation about the self-presenting door like on the Model X. Dear Tesla, can I haz it please?

I’m not certain but on my X the doors could close automatically as well. So my guess would be that the issue would be an auto presenting door in error but then the door wouldn’t be able to close if you left the proximity of the vehicle without closing it manually.

The Cybertruck doesn't have a door actuator. It has the ability to unlatch and the little piston pushes it open slightly. So, at most, we could have an auto unlatching door. It'd just keep you from having to press the lighted button. But, it would keep you from getting fingerprints on the button. AND, it'd just be a software update.

AND if you get something out of the back and walk past the front door, and it auto presents, and you don’t notice, your truck will be available to anyone in the area.

Unless it used the sentry mode camera feed and looked for the right indications of going to open the door. Plus, after 30 seconds the piston retracts and the latch will engage enough to prevent the door from opening.

Have you tested that, just press the button and wait for it to retract? I don’t believe it would be able to reengage the latch. And sentry mode making a mistake is what Telsa would want to be able to correct by relatching. The frunk on the cars do this, they pop open, but if left untouched for a period of time, they stay ajar, but lock in place.

Way too much of a liability that could bring on lawsuits

Exactly…that is obviously why it will never happen on the CT

Yup, it does, after exactly 30 seconds it closes enough to latch. It's not a full latch (2nd click) but it'll prevent the door from opening and allows the truck to be locked. Basically same as you described the frunk.

This would need the right safely checks in place - look for the phone key walking up, look for the right movement, check the truck is mostly level, etc.

Interesting, I could see wind being a factor too. It would be awesome if they implemented this.

We know they won't. Thus thread pops up everyone few weeks, but Tesla said they would not implement this and that's pretty rare.

Oh yes, I did not think about that. I would be fine with that actually as long as I get a notification to my phone if I don't open the door in <1m or something.

Yeah, that was I was thinking about. The same mechanism that happens when you press the button.

Wes already said Tesla wasn't going to add this due to the door not being able to close on it's own.
Ah, too bad.

As long as I can disable it, I frequently walk my my teslas, taking out the garbage, check the mail, just put flipping off the neighbors etc. I don’t want it to open up as I walk by.

I think I’d prefer it set up like the auto-frunk where you stand there for a little bit and then it unlatches if you’re carrying stuff.
