Given the latest goings on, perhaps if a sentry event is triggered by one Tesla, all teslas within 100 feet could contribute video? Since they are all constantly recording and save the pre-event video, seems like this would be easy to implement. Opt out if you are antisocial seems enough control for the end user.

Good idea, trash, ideas?

I think it's a great idea. The Tesla/x.ai conglomerate has one of the best AI models out there too. Would be great to use it to identify misbehavior and automatically alert the police, with a nice multi-angle evidence package of the misdeeds.

Cool idea! Although, it would probably have to rely on all the nearby Teslas to have a switch on, and I don't know how many people would do that...

I Love it.

Maybe one of you talented folks can photoshop Elon’s face and some tiny Cybertruck’s onto this?

Right now sentry only knows about your car. Are you suggesting that other local Teslas start recording but somehow flag the video as originating from an event at your car? I already get sentry events if anyone walks near my car. We would then get hundreds of videos and very quickly fill on memory sticks. So as much as I like the idea I don’t think it is ‘that’ easy to implement.

Similar to ring cameras? They can be polled by police in a neighborhood if you don’t opt out (big brother much Jeff?) sentry mode might be a little too sensitive but maybe if it alarms. That could be tweaked so someone touching your car more than just walking by and admiring it ?

Yes, opt out would have to be an option.
Teslas are constantly recording and once triggered, save the video from before the trigger time. It would therefore be a signal from the mother ship to any nearby Tesla to save that time stamped video. That could be uploaded to the mothership and then to the triggering vehicle. Would save on storage And simplify retrieval.

I like the idea, Elon would make sure it worked well without eating everyones storage space I am sure.
I already search out other Teslas to park next to when I take my Cybertruck somewhere, hoping in theory there will be twice the amount of cameras around my vehicle, so maybe this Swarm Sentry has something to it!?
How could you submit your idea to Tesla though?

The system would work as follows
  1. Owners opt-in via the Tesla app, with default opt-out to respect privacy.
  2. When Sentry Mode is triggered, the vehicle reports to Tesla's servers with GPS location and timestamp.
  3. Servers query for nearby opted-in vehicles within 100 feet at that time, using periodic location updates.
  4. Servers request footage from nearby vehicles, specifying a time window (e.g., 30 seconds before and after the event).
  5. Vehicles upload compressed footage to servers, which compile it for the owner of the triggered vehicle.
  6. Owners access compiled footage through the app, with options to download, share, or report to authorities.
Privacy and User Control
Privacy is a critical concern, given the sensitive nature of video footage.
The system would:
  • Require explicit opt-in, with clear notifications about data usage.
  • Anonymize footage during transmission and storage to protect identities.
  • Allow users to set preferences, such as restricting sharing to Tesla only or enabling sharing with authorities.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy laws, varying by jurisdiction, through legal consultation.

Technical Considerations and Challenges
  • Bandwidth: Uploading video footage could strain cellular networks. Mitigation includes compressing files, uploading only relevant segments, and prioritizing Wi-Fi for uploads where possible.
  • System Load: Increased server load from multiple uploads could be managed by batch processing and using cloud storage solutions
  • Storage: Temporary storage for footage on servers could be limited, with automatic deletion after a set period (e.g., 30 days) unless downloaded by the owner.
  • Legal and Regulatory: Recording and sharing footage may have implications in different regions.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I thought what an awesome idea. I think such a swarm sentry feature could also have the cars nearby also notify their owners as a precaution if a certain option is set.

Obviously, you wouldn't want a bunch of spam notifications triggered by swarm sentry but if a certain type of event could be discerned (like someone beating on the car, or keying the car), and then a certain type of event is set to send a notification (even if it is from a nearby car) then I think swarm notifications would be appropriate.

I think a melding of AI and Sentry Mode to discern in more detail the type of a triggered event, could provide next-level protection and notification options.

If you think regular sentry drains your battery wait until you enable swarm sentry. Next level battery drains

Sentry mode should have face recognition AI built into it
