So prolly I don’t rob a bank, streak naked, or urinate on a tree next to a Tesla parking lot?

Nah. 20% consumption would be a huge amount of energy and nowhere near what the cost would be for this feature. If it was even noticeable, you can still opt out.

love the ideas people are sharing. Keep It Simple is the mantra for getting a feature out quickly!
Regular sentry can burn 20% today in a high traffic area. My work has tons of people around and if I park near the pedestrian walk way I can loose 20% easy per day. So yes that is accurate I’ve witnessed it countless times. I also work around a lot of people flying out of town you would not believe the amount of teslas that get towed away bc they left sentry on and went out of town a few days and they check their app a lot. It happens the latest sentry updates shut sentry down at 20% soc but that can still be burned away if you check your app a lot while away from car. 100% truth and accurate

I can tell you the more often the cars wake up the more power they consume if waking up a lot you could loose 20% in a high traffic area in one day. I’d say that would be normal with the swarm idea
Being active in a swarm proximity collection would not necessarily mean all the vehicles would have to wake up constantly when the triggered vehicle alerts, depending on how such a feature is implemented. They could set it up where the swarm updates proximity data when someone arrives at the place or departs, and the appropriate Tesla accounts of the swarm collection would already be updated as members of the swarm in the cloud so that only the triggered vehicle would be 'waking up', while still all the proximity Tesla accounts could then get notifications if they've opted in. Then it could be up to each recipient if they want to have their car automatically wake up for a proximity event, or just have it set where they could wake it up after getting a notification if they want. There are many ways and degrees to implement such a feature.

But I don't disagree that battery consumption from Sentry mode is a concern, so let's hope future generations of hardware will be more efficient because it is in Tesla's interest as the sensor camera power consumption also affects travel range to a degree as well.

Wow, I’m shocked. I garage mine so no action unless I’m in a lot or parked on a road. I haven’t noticed any consumption at all. A 20% hit would make me opt out. What is taking the energy, the compute?

Given the latest goings on, perhaps if a sentry event is triggered by one Tesla, all teslas within 100 feet could contribute video? Since they are all constantly recording and save the pre-event video, seems like this would be easy to implement. Opt out if you are antisocial seems enough control for the end user.

Good idea, trash, ideas?
I love this idea. I had the same thought so I’d like to take partial credit? :)

I think the “swarm“ sentry increases the chance that a license plate will be captured. I don’t know how Tesla makes those videos from other Teslas available to me, and it would certainly have to be opt in to share, but it’s a brilliant idea!

Very interesting concept as long as there’s an opt-out option.
It would be the same opt out as normal sentry mode. It would still only save to your car, it would just be longer range motion sensing.

Sentry mode should have face recognition AI built into it
Would probably just need a software update, although the cam quality is questionable.

I Love it.

Maybe one of you talented folks can photoshop Elon’s face and some tiny Cybertruck’s onto this?

Sentry would need to use 10x less power to make this worth my electricity bill.
