The plastic parts are surprisingly cheap, but there are a lot of components to the front camera system, there’s a camera, a camera cover, a heater unit for it, a nozzle to clean it, and you really don’t know what’s damaged until you take stuff apart. You also don’t know if you damaged any of the energy absorbing components, not sure how big the hit was. The good thing is it’s not too hard to take the bumper fascia off should take under 30 minutes to get a good idea. If you liked legos when your a kid the Tesla service manual is really good at step by step directions how to do everything yourself and you can even order the parts over the counter from a service center if you are like me and really impatient. Look up the part numbers in the part manual and create a service ticket looking for over the counter prices on the parts.
that’s really cool! I live 3 hrs from a service center.

Either:
  1. Don’t enter the tracks until the way is clear, or
  2. Thank the Lord for your torque and happily replace the bumper, or…
  3. “I don’t want scratches, I’m betting he’ll stop”
All good advice here. But, you’re a bear. Isn’t it in your nature to at least a little bit want the ability to push something out of the way with the truck’s bumper ?

ps the train always stops. Unfortunately, that happens some distance after the collision.

Absolutely. I don't even put my vehicle in the middle of an intersection due to traffic jams, let alone in the middle of a train track, where it would be in the way of oncoming traffic. I always wait for the other side to clear enough before I cross the intersection.
Good practice for sure. I try to do the same, but I’ve been taken by surprise when I couldn’t move entirely off the tracks because the car in front did something unanticipated. One crossing I use regularly has an intersection immediately on both sides of the crossing.

That's not just the right thing to do - and the safer - but it's also the legal thing to do.

Stopping on tracks and blocking intersections for non-safety reasons are all tickets. The tracks can be a federal offense, too!

Don't follow over tracks or intersection until there's clearance.

I keep in mind that there are more fatalities on the tracks near me than anywhere else in the United States. You’ve probably seen in the news that a fire truck was recently hit by a brightline train. The entrance to the police station lot is less than 100 yards from this crossing, as well is the train station. The intersection crosses a 6 lane road in 2 directions, 5 lanes in another and 2 lanes crossing the tracks. I’ve seen a truck, unable to complete the turn after crossing the tracks put it into reverse and do a K turn, backing onto the tracks. A lot of traffic, bumper to bumper at rush hour. The passing of freight trains, albeit slower moving can make some drivers impatient and imprudent as they can block several crossings simultaneously. In most other areas of the country, when train traffic mingles this closely with automobiles the tracks are underground or elevated. It is a dangerous situation, and your words should be heeded, but the police here don’t award citations posthumously as far as I know.

The bumpers are less robust then I would have expected on a truck this size. No doubt, you’ve seen the bumpers on police cars that patrol in large urban areas, that have been equipped to enable them to push vehicles without sustaining damage.

Elon should convince the new administration to install Boring Tunnels at all the RR crossings

Boring specializes in tunnels too small for a rail line.

I meant for the cars, not the trains.

Wait, a train is bigger than a Cybertruck? ?

Well, only EVs could go through the tunnel unless it was really short ^-^;

They also specialize in tunnels not meant for hazardous materials or internal combustion.

Getting hit by a train is fairly hazardous ?‍♂
