If you can afford it, get a Raptor R while you wait for your reservation to ripen. I think you will find out it's still pretty much a piece of shit. Maybe not relative to other pieces of shit legacy trucks like my 2010 F-150, it will be miles better. But it's still a piece of shit compared to the Cybertruck unless you have some kind of really unusual use case or can't live without that dumb engine blubber (some people can't).

I've had enough engine noises in my life that now, they just sound antiquated and annoying, especially when I'm enjoying the out of doors and one drives by. The Raptor R sounds like it's announcing, "I'm an internal combustion engine revving up. My best days are behind me, and I'm expensive to fuel, I'm not very fast, but I can still do something an electric can't, listen up!".

But if you have the cash, and your reservation wait looks long, why not have one last fling with a Raptor R? It's not like there will be a thriving secondary market where you can buy a new Cybertruck from a scalper for just a couple thousand more.
I have a Foundation Cyberbeast on order now. Hope to get it in a few months.

The every comparison the CT gets versus trucks like the Raptor R is fine by me.

No one ever questions if RRs or TRXs are "real" trucks. They're pretty much the poster children of pickup trucks. And, when the word gets out that the CT beats those real trucks in essentially every metric the tired trope that the CT isn't a real truck will just ring more and more hollow.

So, every comparison video that comes up is more than welcome and apt in my book.

There was a guy with a super-loud Chevy pickup who would floor his 350 V8 motor back in 1985 and show off his loud pipes every chance he got. We knew it was nothing but noise. My buddy had a Ford Escort, 4 cylinder, and totally destroyed him when the chance came up at a stoplight one day.

And you thought the Lamborghini won the brake test, not because it had sport compound rubber, but because the brakes on the Cybertruck sucked? :ROFLMAO:
The Hummer had agro ATs on and weighs a literal ton more, and it still beat the CT in the brake test!

So where is the logic in your fanboi world??

My post was purely to confirm that the CT brake test with the Hummer was not an anomaly, because it was done in the other lane with the same distance result as with this Raptor one.

Fair.

Next a baja race between the two?
Ok, if you want. In the words of that iconic song by Bread  "It don't matter to me."

There are all sorts of things the CT could get beat at. Limbo contest between the CT and a Ferrari. Smallest parallel parking spot between the CT and a Smart Car. Fastest and lowest depreciation between a CT and a Yugo. And all sorts of purpose built cars vs the CT. Heck, how about a drag race between the CT and a MS Plaid!

What is impressive about the CT is the blend of utility, unique styling, innovation and tech, and all around performance. How many cars or trucks can make as many claims to be at or as close to the top as the CT? No vehicle tops the charts at EVERYTHING. But there are a precious few that are as close to the top in as many areas.

I'm not a baja guy, a 1/4 mile guy, a NASCAR guy, a rock climbing guy, or even a truck guy. But the unique look, the performance, and all the tech in the CT keeps me thinking "I gotta have one".

So can we agree that drag racing an obviously slower truck when we've seen it beat faster vehicles (from the same channel) was unnecessary?

Wouldn't it be better to do another test instead of trying to rehash the same one with weird quirks

Agreed, the raptor is a Baja truck. I don’t believe the cyber truck should be in the same class. I’ve taken my raptor on a 15 foot jump. I doubt I’m gonna do that with the cyber truck.
you definitely should not

the CyberTruck is amazing because it does even a little of what the Raptor can do offroad, but also a little of what a Tacoma can do, but also a little of what a Ram air ride can do, etc.

I’m all for a Jack-of-all-trades value proposition

but they old saying still goes…

They only had the CT for a day of so and had all the other cars lined up to compete already.
They have just been releasing the videos every couple of days.

I'm not yet tired of seeing the CT competing and I don't actually mind the humor that much, you get used to it after a while, and they are always taking the micky out of eachother n matter what. Both are decent track drivers, but Sam does it competitively.

I'm still hoping they take these offroad in the carwow drive test. They've done that for Range/Land Rover/Merceded G etc before too.

this isn’t accurate, in my experience

the raptor can’t tow worth a sh*t and has sh*t payload and a 5.5’ bed

but people who understand and buy trucks understand this and many other such differences in what a configuration is expected to do/not do well

not the least of reasons because Ford doesn’t advertise the Raptor R as being a towing monster.

Rightly or wrongly, the crowd who knows trucks but says “cybertrucks are not a real truck” are typically focused largely on the range (including esp towing range)**, which argument is if we’re honest made more reasonable a take by Tesla positioning the Cybertruck as a do-anything truck, including towing monster.

Meanwhile, the Cybertruck fanbois don’t do themselves any favors by standing up and cheering at eg the F150vCybertruck tug stunt and similar antics, which are pretty patently targeted to be most effective with people who don’t understand even truck basics (eg if weight and tires aren’t identical, that sort of tug doesn’t tell you much of anything)

**not to suggest I exactly agree with any of this, or that you haven’t seen some nimwit exception to the rule

It’s almost like people exist who just like capable trucks, absent a need to sh*t on all other capable trucks like they’re a rival small town sports team!?

Unnecessary from what aspect? It's a channel that does one 1/4 run after another. Do you know how many times they've run a Model S Plaid, MYP, M3P MX Plaid against almost every car sold today? That's what they do! So, to keep in line with their M.O., it was completely necessary, along with the next 20 of them they will do with a CB. Did I need to see it? Maybe not. Does it affect my decision to buy or not to buy a CT? Not at all.

A different test? Not those guys, that's not their formula. Would I like to see the "old" TopGear take it on their "track" (airport) and see the Stig drop a lap with it? Oh heck yeah! Or watch Clarkson race the other two across France to Monaco with them taking a train? Definitely.

There is a benefit to doing the same test over and over. You get a point of reference for everything. As more and more channels get access to a CT or CB, we will see some really cool comparisons. I'm looking forward to them.

No, because as was said earlier, this is the comparison that takes it home to the ICE pickup fans.

I want to see the CT doing "real truck things" like THIS! TOWING A BOAT!

I don't really think the ice pickup fans care about drag racing. I mean, most ice trucks are mega slow.

Some sure.
