Steering is a pretty serious component.
There isn’t a single vehicle sold today from any major manufacturer that in stock form is fit for serious offroad use. Not one.Ford's and Chevy's break *all-the-time* off-road. But when a Tesla breaks, it's not suitable to be called an off-road vehicle.

Yeah, that's just another way to prove the point I was making - that the Cybertruck is unfairly singled out as not being an "off-road" vehicle. I mean the Ford FX4, the Tremor and the Raptor trim levels all have off-road pretentions to varying degrees, but all will fail quickly if you do stupid things with them. Every vehicle has limitations and the Cybertruck is no different.
I’d take it a step further and say anyone that buys an electric truck and thinks they’re gonna use it as a tow rig is delusional. EV trucks are gonna be more efficient at doing what 90% of trucks do 90% of the time, transport a couple people and a few things within 100 miles of their home. EV trucks will never be better for cross country travel in remote places or long distance towing.
People once said the same things about cars vs horses. If battery energy density improves enough, charge times speed up, and high powered charge stations become ubiquitous, EV's could be as good or better.
Maybe you don't realize that the majority of towing trips with 1/2-ton pickups are less than 60 miles and the Cybertruck has excellent towing dynamics and low cost of operation for a rig that can tow up to 11,000 lbs. You will pay a lot more per year to meet your business towing needs with a gas or diesel pickup. It only takes an average of less than 50 miles per day to accumulate over 18,000 miles of towing per year. If your truck averages 9 mpg while towing your equipment trailer around, that's a lot of fuel (2,000 gallons) and maintanence expense every year your business has to cover. Not to mention downtime when your truck is in the shop getting serviced. Year after year, it adds up.
Every system has a weak point, and yes sometimes the designers will engineer the weak point so as to cause the least damage.
Give us a break! You take a $100 K truck and TRY to break it? You can do that with wreckers a quarter the the price! The CT is not an off road machine!
This isn't my truck but this happened to someone that brought theirs out to King of the Hammers the past few days. The rear-steering tie-rod broke. Supposedly the inner bolt to the rack is the culprit but I don't have the full details nor any extra photos.
Either way, sounds like the driver was having a good time and pushed the truck to the limits to try and find weaknesses. Mission accomplished?
