The dual motor was the most popular model. But of course the proportions vary based upon when the snapshot was taken and what assumptions are built into the estimates.

You say, "a lot of people with reservation opted for the base model". That is not true if you are speaking as a percent of the total registrations because a very low percentage of Cybertruck reservations were for the base model (which is why Elon moved the base model, single motor from one of two introductory models (single motor and the dual motor) to purgatory (a place without a definitive release date). There just wasn't enough demand to make the single motor a first release candidate.

Somewhere I saw a compilation of the take rate of the various trims based upon polling of people who claimed to have reserved on or more Cybertrucks and the average cost of all configurations was over $60K. For reference, that number was based upon the following three trims:

single motor @ $39.9K
dual motor @ 49.9K
tri-motor @ $69.9K

The word was that both the dual and tri-motors were more popular than the single motor, RWD, with the tri-motor being the most popular. And that makes a lot of sense, because about 73 percent of ICE truck sales are 4WD.
Well, I did not reserve on opening week. Too many others prevented me from getting in. By the time I got around to reserving, the price for the 3 motor long range version was $80K. At $80K (the cost of a IC loaded PU), the CT is a major bargain. But, I will fall asleep before I dream. I figure the prices will come in at $60K (SM), $70K (DM), $80K (TM), $90K (QM) and $100K (QM, 500 miles range).

OBTW, I am already driving my Cyberturck! Eat your heart out.

Not made by Tesla, tho ....

Made by Hot Wheels. But, how many of you can say you are driving a CT, even if it is chasing the dogs around the house!

At no point has Tesla ever said the tri motor variant would start at $80k.

Tesla has never changed the pricing on the Cybertruck reservations. Are you maybe including Full Self Driving prices in the cost? They have increased the price for Full Self Driving as an option for all their vehicles, that is the only thing that might have increased.

Most of us do not consider Full Self Driving addon pricing when we discuss the price of the vehicle as it is a weird software service thing with pricing that Tesla keeps increasing.

I just wanted to point out that history of the various rollouts do not back up that Tesla always launches the most expensive version first.
that variance in history combined with the uniqueness of the CT (in all relevant metrics, really), seems to mean at best that any version of roll out is a viable possibility

for every appeal to a precedent, there are both contrary precedent as well as distinctions with the CT that may mean no one precedent is very good predictor

A lot of people with reservations opted for the base model. If Elon follows past methods, those folks will be last to get theirs, regardless of their reservation number. The loaded versions will be first off the line because Tesla makes more money on those versions. I ordered a loaded to the gills version and the Tesla salesman told me it will be here in Reno in July 2024.
There are no "Tesla salesmen", at least not salaried @ Tesla.
There are plenty of people like myself who constantly evangelize the brand. We are the de facto Tesla salesforce and we are very determined ... ;-)

If you think Tesla is going to let CT's go for 2019 prices, I have a bridge in San Francisco I want to sell you ....

Personally, the cost of FSD is too much, particularity when I would not be able or want to use it much. I prefer to be in control and do not trust electronics to drive me instead. Too many people trust autopilots - airplanes, boats, cars, etc. and end up in wrecks. Just look at all the Tesla misadventures with FSD.

You guys realize Tesla has not had prices on their CT web pages for years now, right?

You realize that the price for every other Tesla product was based on when the reservation was made, not any alterations afterwards, right?

You realize that when they took my reservation that they did right?

That’s what the legal system cares about.

Art,

I gotta say, you might link this to a car, but to a plane is about as ill-informed of a claim as you can get. You're stepping in an arena that I am pretty knowledgable about.. I'll leave my part at that.

When absolute precision is needed, and lives are on the line, and the plane is closer to dangerous things, advanced aircraft are REQUIRED to be on autopilot. When landing in zero visibility with people in the plane behind you, the autopilot is REQUIRED to be used all the way through touchdown and braking down 60knots. Why, because they fly better than a person, to tighter tolerances, and with nearly 100% accuracy, every time. I can't fly as well as the autopilot can, and no one else can either. Prove me wrong.

And for boats, pretty much every boat accident I've heard of on autopilot has been the person at the helm screwing up the use of the A/P, either through incorrect programming or some other human error.

To lump every autopilot together and then make a statement that they "end up in wrecks" is misleading at best.
