I took delivery on Saturday and the truck was filthy. This afternoon I busted out my Kranzle Powerwasher and went to work on the new rig. I consider myself an Amateur detailer and take a lot of pride in using the proper techniques and products. Started the wash with a pressure rinse and then Foamed it use Kochchemie GSF. I let the Foam sit on the truck for a few minutes then went around hand scrubbing using two bucket method other than the microfiber wand I had to use to scrub the tonnoue and the roof glass/Windshield. Finally dried with drying towels and then began inspecting my work. I noticed several areas that had smudges and iron spots in the Stainless. I elected to go with the bar keepers friend method to handle these. I started out applying it by hand and scrubbed it in and let it sit for a minute one panel at a time. I would then hit it with windex and microfiber. It turned out beautiful but lots of microfiber towels needed to keep it from smudging. I have a moderate case of OCD and I there were several moments I almost regretted buying this truck. I want it perfect and the amount of time it would take to achieve my standards is just unreasonable. I began to accept 95% good. I also used a Milwaukee polisher on some of the panels and honestly I donāt think it did any better of a job than applying bar keepers by hand. At the end I was satisfied with my work and had 2.5 hours into the whole process. I do have a couple of questions /comments for the group.
1. I find that the wheels on the drivers side feel rough/Coarse on the finish. They kind of grab the towels and not near as smooth as the two wheels on the passenger side.. Anyone else notice this? Think I should say something to Tesla?
2. The black plastics on this thing scratch really easy.. Like I could write my name with my fingernail in this stuff.. I donāt love that.. My lower rocker panels have some staining from being out in the weather.. Whatās the best product to try and get those clean again?? I tried scrubbing but there still there.
3. I bought the Tesla detail kit and I went back and forth with the Waterless wash and Windex and I canāt really tell a difference they both work great. The Stainless Cleaner however leaves an orange Haze on the Stainless. Do not reccommend.
I wish I had a picture of the truck when I was done but of course the minute I finished my wife wanted to take the truck outā¦. My job is never done..
Detailing is my therapy.
