I was so thrilled to get an invitation to order a CT Foundation that I immediately placed my order! After some reflection and mainly talking to my wife, realized I might have acted too soon.
I tried to call Tesla to see what my options were, but couldn’t get any person on the phone (after many tries). I left several messages to call me back, but no response. Today I drove to the nearest service center to talk to a real person. It was 130 miles each way. They were very helpful. They put my order on hold until December. That way I kept my $100 & $1000 deposits and didn’t have to place a new order for CT and go to end of the line. Hopefully by then they will be selling only the regular CT’s without all extra Foundation stuff I don’t want or need. I can renew the hold 4 more times if necessary to keep my place in line and not have to buy the Foundation Series
So I was having a debate on this as I am curious if it is actually true.
So I put 1k down tonight on my FS order, and go tomorrow to the local SC and say I want to wait till December on a “hold”. So even though I am RN1173xxx.. by placing the 1k down, I basically get to skip the whole line for non-FS…
Anyone else think this is actually how that works? We know the customer service people have been known to be wrong on details like that

It may very well work like that.

With the ending of the FS, the dilemma for Tesla is how to manage things like vehicle holds. Do you hold back some number of built FS trucks in order to have product available for those customers when their holds go live again? Or do you ship the last FS truck when it comes off the line and plan on moving any holds to general production trucks?

The latter makes a whole lot more sense.

Congrats on the deposit, @CyberTW!

IMHO if you want this truck then you made a big mistake. Why do people get so bent out of shape thinking Elon will flip a switch and cheaper trucks will just pour out? You do realize the ramp up will take years, the unknowns (wheels, tires, options, PRICE) could actually make the non FS more expensive then the current offering and it may take 2-3+ year to get? If you want the truck you should get back in the car and drive the 130 miles to tell them you made a mistake.

Last Thursday, I got an invitation to get a Foundation Series. Previously, my reservation was scheduled to be fulfilled in February 2025. My reservation is for a Quad motor, 500 mile range CT, promised in 2019, but not on the production radar, yet. My question is, if I refuse the Foundation offer, will it kill my reservation? While waiting for Elon to fulfill his promises, I got a Model X with 340 miles of range. So, I have no burning desire to get a low range CT. Here in Reno, Nevada, CT's are as common as flies. Actually, about 20% of all the cars are Teslas. We have the battery plant. What the Quad CT will have that my X does not is towing capacity. Right now, my 4,800 lb. PJ dump trailer is full of hay and tipping the scales at over 10,000 lbs. I have to get a friend with a Ford HD :)poop:) to tow it because the X is limited to 6,000 lbs. Right now, it is a race between Tesla and Chevy to see who gives me a proper EV pickup with range.

You will likely be waiting for ever.

Refusing the FS invite will keep you on the list for a non-FS, but if you refuse again, it will likely be cancelled.

Which is fine as the thing you are waiting for isn't even rumored to come, ever outside of using the range extender.

I am actually one of the few who really likes the looks of the CT. However, what I need is a real pickup with range and towing. The current version of the CT is far removed from what Elon promised. The Chevy eSilverado has range and towing. But it looks like every pickup on the road. It costs as much as Foundation; so no tax credit. The RST, which is the one I would get, only comes in white or black. Neither color lights my fire.

And you are wrong. Play the 2019 video where Elon introduces CT. And I was actually able to reserve exactly what I said. I think Elon will push out the Quad before he does the single motor. Here, in Reno, with snow, the single motor would be useless in the winter. I will wait until February 2025.

I passed on the FS option, I originally reserved on 7/19/20. I feel like they are flying down the list since there is a high rate of people passing on the FS option. I rather wait for the Cyberbeast at the non FS pricing, and honestly after waiting so long, I don’t care if it’s another 1-2 years.
I’m with this. Particularly if you don’t need another vehicle

Yes sir, my 3 year old Y with 90,000 miles still drives like a dream!

you will die waiting, because 'quad motor' was never a thing and isn't on the roadmap, and 500 miles was never a 'promise'

1. "One of the few". That's an odd statement. Almost all of us love the look and most in public seem to love it.
2. Elon said on JRE about the launch of the CT that "No one needs 500 miles. It's doable, but unnecessary". Just like the Plaid +, it's likely never coming.
3. A quad motor was never promised. Sure, it could happen, but it's also unlikely.

I already have an X with 340 miles of range with no expensive extender. And the X has Falcon Wing doors. And room in the trunk for my German Shepherds. Obviously, my X and my daughter's Y have converted me into an anti-ICE guy.

You repeating the same thing doesn't change the truth.

Quad was never promised, 500 miles of range is "unnecessary" per Elon.

The CT has better real world range than the Model X. It's about the same as my 22 Model S at 80 mph.

Does "SC" in your handle mean South Carolina? My brother lives in SC. SC does not have any Tesla Service Centers because the ICE crowd blocked Tesla. So, how do you take a test drive? I would like to send my brother on one. Thanks.

There is a service center in downtown Columbia. South Carolina does not have a Sales Center.

You can't test drive a Cyber Truck, you would have to rent one from Turo.

What quad motor? I’ve watched the announcement 20 times over the years. I’ve never heard quad motor.
