My take after a ride this morning:

"Speed decay" seems to be a bit better (in town, haven't been on the highway). No notable changes in hard braking and cutting corners too sharp ? (I have a particular route that I take that has all of the VERY consistent stumbling blocks).

The hard braking while in a stack of cars at a stop sign is going to get me rear ended. It's not Natural in momentum to other drivers. I'll take any and all amounts of progress though!

Not much difference from previous version. Left turn still almost took my wheel off, braking in Houston traffic seemed improved, but same situations still remain where I felt like a teenager was driving.

Just drove about 700 miles on the new update (north Florida to south Florida and back again. Ugh.). Some quick observations to answer earlier questions (while it is fresh in my head). The trip down was all daylight and with automatic speed control off, and 15% above speed limit max setting. The trip back up was all night driving with the automatic speed setting enabled. 95% was interstate driving.

1 - The truck still tailgates the vehicles in front of it. Dangerously. I had a lot of disengagements simply due to this safety issue.

2 - The speed issue still persists in that it'll be doing 55mph in a 70mph zone with people driving much faster around me. Didn't matter what my setting was. This alone made the entire trip miserable to drive as I was having to do accelerator pedal interventions every few minutes.

3 - The truck sucks at getting back over after passing someone. About half the time it's great. Very smooth and very human like. The other half of the time, it just never gets back over. It rides along in the passing lane even though there's no vehicle any longer in the lane to the right side, forcing traffic to pass me on the right.

4 - When there are three lanes, the truck never gets all the way into the right lane. It just hogs the center lane like a stupid SUV driver, causing traffic problems. It needs to be in the right lane unless passing.

5 - The truck never passed on the right. Not once. There were numerous examples of where someone was driving slow in the passing lane, the right hand lane was wide open for miles, and the truck would just tailgate the person in the passing lane at an unsafe distance. Every single time. I'd have to intervene and force a right lane pass.

6 - Still no getting over for emergency vehicles on the side of the road. I nearly blew past a cop who was parked on the side of the road with their lights flashing.

7 - The very short distance in city driving had me go through two roundabouts, and it clipped the inner curb on one of them.

8 - I almost never drive at night. I had no idea auto high beams were this awful. I was blinding people at times, and baffled at it not turning on at all when nobody was around at other times. I wish I could disable automatic high beams because it's pathetic.

9 - Phantom rain/wiper issue is still there. Cloudless sunny day? TURN ON THE WIPERS!!! Slightly cloudy, but rainless day? WIPERS ON NOW!!! Happened multiple times.

Looks like I will not be using self driving again until the next update which sounds like some of these behaviors are improved on already. It's just too exhausting to use right now. Looking forward to the next update!

Edit:

10 - I almost forgot this one! When a vehicle is drifting a little towards you from the right lane, the truck will drift over to its left, even going so far as driving on or over the solid yellow line on the left side of the road. It's a nice behavior as a lot of time large semi trucks will get pretty close to you. I really like this. But weirdly enough, when someone is drifting over towards you in the lane to your left, the truck will SLAM ON ITS BRAKES! Every damn time. This occurs a LOT when someone is passing you on the left and getting back over into your lane just after passing you. They'll be a full car length and the truck decides to slam on the brakes. It got so bad I'd just ride with my foot over the accelerator. I felt like I was driving FSD from 2019 all over again where it was plagued with phantom breaking.

I commute 40 miles each way in DFW. While I absolutely LOVE my Beast, and have had no problems or issues with it in a month of ownership (knock on wood), this FSD is nearly worthless to me.

Same issues as poster above. Mostly unreliable on city streets but won’t change lanes on the highway correctky without manual intervention. Turns too sharp. Runs red lights. Can’t exit or enter my gated neighborhood. Misses exits and puts me in bad situations.

I think there’s a lot of work to be done on FSD, but don’t want this to be seen as FUD for an otherwise AMAZING truck that, thankfully, I love to drive.

I had a very good experience on the previous version and I just got the update so I will be using it tomorrow to drive from Atlanta to Orlando. I never had any tailgating issues or the wiper turning on except when it was raining. I did notice it tends to stay left for too long when passing. I also had it brake for a passing car but not all of the time. I'll try and keep track more tomorrow if it does it.

What's funny is the old highway stack was amazing. It wasn't perfect, but it didn't require me to intervene in some way or another so often. I have a 2018 Model 3 I bought new and that used to be our long distance vehicle because driving it on the highways was stress free. Now with the truck, it's very stressful to drive with FSD enabled on the highway, haha.

I'm sure they'll get these kinks worked out quickly. Though moving over a lane for first responders who are working on the side of the road (and general workers or trucks broken down there) should have been implemented years ago. That one boggles my mind on why they haven't made protecting their lives a priority. School zones being another one that should have been a priority.

Got my upgrade yesterday and finally right turn not cutting corners so close to curbs and left turn more smooth and correct. I noticed car is not driving close to a middle lane anymore. Good job with upgrade…

Downloading now! I notice every update completes then goes back to 50%. I don’t recall that in my others Teslas before but no biggie!

This revived the debate about Google's Waymo's Lidar vs Tesla's vision-camera.

Waymo was running since 2015 while we are still on unsolved scary-sharp left turn on FSD and this is already near the end of 2024.

An aside, yesterday, my FSD disengaged with a message saying my front view is degraded. And I was just traveling in a mildly dusty road. Lidar will definitely penetrate even heavy dust, fog or recognize the difference between a concrete or pile of snow up front.

FSD couldn't drive when driving into the sun every afternoon for me.

Have a tough blind corner it ran through the other day. Did it again today but I was close enough to yellow that I let it ride. 30ft later it was jamming the gas towards the next red light. I had to abort FSD. I know it's a bad corner, but the second light was obvious.

Definitely not there but a great assist for most of my commute. I admit I use it a lot, but you gotta be diligent and lredict the problems. Like you're with your 19 year old who you still don't trust but have started to relax with driving.

When I was driving on dusty roads around Caddo Lake last week my entire windshield was coated with dust. I didn't even notice it until I left a heavily forested area and turned west into the bright, late afternoon sunlight. I had to stop immediately because the Sun's glare on the dust blinded me. I don't know what effect that might have had on FSD, because I was towing a trailer and trailer mode apparently de-activates FSD.

Perhaps your windshield was dusty enough at the top of the windshield that the camera view from the forward cameras behind your windshield couldn't produce an adequate image for the FSD. This could happen even if the lower 80% of the windshield is perfectly clean.

I just made the drive from Atlanta to Orlando on this update.

Turning left on streets seems to be better. Right turns are also smoother to me.

On the backroads it goes way too fast into stopped traffic then slams on the brakes. One time I just braked myself since it was kind of close. It does do a better job of staying in it’s lane and not going onto the left line.

Sometimes it ignores left turn lights that are green and doesn’t move. I have to tap the pedal to get it to turn.

On the highway it’s still staying in the left lane sometimes too long and other times not leaving so I had to use the blinker 5-6 times. Hopefully that gets better with the next main update.

Auto speed was mostly fine but a few times I had to hit the pedal to get it going.

I had no tailgating, wiper never came on. I did have it brake 3 times for cars that passed too close. 2 of them had no turn signals on. All 3 were just reckless idiots weaving between traffic.

Only main issue I had was in Georgia were it continuously thinks the speed limit drops to 40. I watched it close and it doesn't seem to be triggered by the actual minimum speed 40 sign. It just happens about every 10 miles from Macon to the Florida state line. Seems like it's some kind of mapping error. I have to hit the pedal to get it back up to speed. It's not the worst thing ever but I wish it wouldn't do it.
