Please share your knowledge about this new hardware that I heard in passing. What hardware does CT have for this FSD technology? I can't wait to get the FSD update (and YouTube music).

CT has the HW4 computer or as they call it now AI4 which is the latest. Most of the fleet more then a year or two old are HW3. There are older versions out there too including HW2.5. AI5 hardware is on the drawing board for next year. You were likely reading about the HW3 folks worried about getting FSD 12.5 as it is only going to HW4 cars. Tesla says both HW3 cars and the Cybertruck will get FSD 2.5.

What is there to confirm? All CTs have HW4 which is now called AI4 (same thing). FSD 12.5 is available for HW4 currently, except the CT. It's also not available for HW3 while they optimize it. They are testing FSD on both, but we don't know when either will be ready.

Eventually HW3 will fall behind HW4 as Elon stated at the launch of HW4, it's likely already occurring, but that doesn't mean Tesla is abandoning HW3. AI5/HW5 will be released at the end of next year and in 1-2 years time after that the new HW5/AI5 will begin to surpass and show better results with FSD than HW4/AI4 as is the nature of technology.

Simple, latest and greatest vehicle gets latest and greatest hardware.

It's been shipping in the cars for over a year.

I will say I upgrade my Model S to HW3, and love it, so smooth and FSD is pretty amazing, I don't think I would feel comfortable sleeping while driving, but in fairness, I don't feel comfortable sleeping if my wife is driving either. But I will gladly send a text or check an email with it turned on. I can't wait to see what HW4 offers.

I had a loaner, X. I was trying to email and the X warned me to apply a slight pressure on the steering wheel. At one point, X took me out of SelfDriving and told me I wasn't allowed to use it on that trip. It was version 13 not 15, the latest.

It will do that in all the ADAS (Automated Driver Assistance System) modes to make sure you're paying attention, not just self driving.

The current Supervised Full Self Driving (As opposed to Autopilot) is using eye tracking. But it will fall back to the steering pressure method to make sure you really are supervising it.

Do not, in any Tesla driving mode, attempt to email while supervising the driver assistance systems.

Full Self Driving 13 isn't available.

You're always so helpful.
I didn't even know what I was driving then...it was automatic from my driveway to the bar (I parked). :)

The car was not able to detect that you are paying attention. It had already popped up a vew messages and made big pulsing motions on the screen and as well as "Please pay attention" notices.
Since it was unable to confirm that you were paying attention, many time, the car got a strike and was put into the doghouse until you stopped.

Up until the next big release, all Teslas, when the car is controlling the wheel, require slight torque on the wheel to show that you are there.

Yeah I’ve had that happen. Just have to barely apply pressure. They actually make weights for the wheel. Don’t know if they work.

Don't do that. You will be liable in an accident.

Worse, Tesla may lock you out of ADAS features.
