Agreed the sign thing is huge issue. And true everywhere. Kinda weird because AP back in 2015 could read signs accurately most of the time. This is very recent, with 14.3. Because it was a total rebuild of FSD from scratch, my sense is this is a missing feature that will be returned. Thatās the answer in my view, not a return of a user-defined speed differential or cap. More intelligence, not less.FSD either can't read speed signs or chooses to ignore them constantly in my area. About 60% of the time it has the wrong speed limit so the profiles are useless to me. In my neighborhood it thinks the limit is 55mph. On the highway near me it thinks the limit is 45mph. This is true with both FSD and TACC. Hence why FSD is useless to me.
Maybe it works great in your area, but it doesn't in mine. Taking away the manual speed control made it useless to me. It is literally easier to just drive myself than to supervise FSD and constantly correct it's speed.
It appears the switch to new underlying programming language and methodology has serious looses ends, some of which are acknowledged in the release notes. Until the coming revisions we must cope but I think the engineers understood the challenge, and so much else is better and being set up for the unsupervised use case.
I agree there are some steps backward but find itās still better in a lot of ways such as shadows, phantom braking, speed bumps, animals, emergency vehicles. Itās now backing into the driveway and garage and picking better parking spots.
The sign reading thing is a clear regression but it can be fixed because Tesla already licked that twice in the past, first with MobilEye technology from a third party in AP, and then internally after abandoning radar and other sensors. I wasnāt happy with the initial attempts for either of them and have lived through every version of FSD starting with the drunk teenage Vernon my ā19 MX.
Iām not highly confident about unsupervised due to the massive remaining hurdles, but am fairly confident that Tesla can make most of us happy with FSD handling things like signs and speed limits. Because they have a long track record on those specific things. Software is hard.
