Several years ago, I thought if they required TACC on LA freeways it would eliminate traffic jams and debottleneck LA freeways. I'm sure it will be a long time before anything like that happens. I've had to intervene when I did not feel comfortable trusting it or when the GPS mapping is not correct.
I keep thinking, Tesla doesn't want me to intervene, but they won't pay for the damage caused when FSD crashes, so I'm going to take over!
I’ve noticed since driving Teslas with or without FSD, that mainly bottlenecks occur due to drivers ahead or first in line are soooooo slow at getting moving and gearing up that by the time a 4th or even 5th vehicle in line (god forbid its a tesla impatiently waiting to Just GO! Already) the entire line of vehicles are now in a pack or causing congestion within the previously distanced traffic.

Maybe start dropping a tootsie roll as a reward from ICE engine vehicle dashes if they happen to progress through a light in less than a minute time span. ?? ?? ?

I wish you would have graded my work in school. You're very generous.

Self-driving is one of those problems where 99.9% solved might as well be a million miles away from 100%. That 0.01% disqualifies it as full self-driving.
Perfection isn't the goal. As long as it's 10 times better than the average driver, we will eventually reach a point where insurers would rather have systems like FSD in charge than us. I could see a point where "manual" driving insurance is more expensive.

That is likely true for most driving, but Tesla (Elon) has stated the intention is for level 5. It was said with FSD you could summon your vehicle from Los Angeles to New York. It was also said you could sleep in the car. That can't happen without perfection, without even taking accidents into consideration. Otherwise you will have paralyzed self driving cars stuck behind washed out roads, broken street lights or other very niche situations.

I'm impressed with FSD and I think they are close now, but that last bit might take decades.

Why do you think Tesla doesn't want you to intervene? They wouldn't keep hammering home that you have to pay attention if they didn't want you to intervene when you saw a problem.

Plus, interventions are how Tesla knows where to look for needed training data (videos of incidents requiring driver intervention). It makes no sense to think Tesla doesn't want you to intervene when it's doing something that could cause an accident.

I agree. FSD is great except for a few minor issues. I’ve experienced the left turn issue, particularly when the vehicle has stopped over the line and is slightly in the intersection.

Turning into my Subdivision was a challenge for FSD. They recently paved the turn lane, so there aren’t any white lines. It slows almost to a stop in the traffic lane before turning causing cars behind me to think I’m a new driver (slightly embarrassing). Also, I wish it would turn into my driveway instead of stopping in front of my house.

Overall. I’m excited to have FSD.

Tesla doesn’t want us to intervene so they can say there are fewer interventions. You are right they want our feedback when there is an issue and I give them all the feedback when there is an issue.

Tesla absolutely wants you to intervene. Thinking otherwise is ridiculous.
