Curious of your experiences with parking. I haven't tested curbside or parallel, only classic parking spots (diagonal or straight).

I headed out last night for a good 30-45 mins... just choosing random businesses and driving from parking spot to parking spot. Got some very mixed results.

Diagonal parking was centered and clean. Could have been deeper to get its ass in a bit more.
Straight spots (backed in) were about 70-80% solid and didn't require me to recenter.
Straight spots (front first) were just down right horrible. And that's fine, they'll get it ....but it was BAD. One was so crooked that if the car next to it pulled out it would back into the truck. That wasn't me getting impatient either, that was it going to completion and calling the park job good. It seems to get itself into trouble by turning too tight into spaces vs using space and going wider.

It didn't attempt handicap spots but in a few instances I tested, it also passed up empty normal spaces next to them so I didn't think much of it. They will need to implement some sort of toggle eventually that you can turn on if you have a placard for handicap prio I'm sure.

It was also inconsistent with how to decided to park. Most of these parking lots I had never even driven through, yet some it backed into a space and others it would pull in front first. Also needs to back out a bit more out of spots when departing. Seems to like to cut it close on the front end when it doesn't need to.

At the moment I'll probably just manually park or test autopark in order to force a back in? but hopefully now that we have v14 they'll be able to give CT some more frequent tweaks.

I noticed that V14 doesn't back up close enough to the V2 charger stalls. It's at least a foot short.
On the other hand, selecting the parking spot and letting it back in, works well for the chargers.

Yea i tested a supercharger once and it backed up close enough. It did for Chuck in one of his videos too IIRC.

I wish I got a picture but just got back from lowes and out of ~50% of the spots open, it chose one next to the cart return where one of the carts was a good 6-8" into the parking spot. It decided to back into it anyways and was basically centered on the opposite parking line lol.

Yeah CT autopark is far from refined. I agree it will improve with time, as all things Tesla, youre buying in now for a better tomorrow.
I notice that nose first it does not pull all the way in, and backing in it is fine about 1/3 of the time. Other times it is crooked or on the line, or just overall way less efficient than i would have been had i just parked myself.

I feel like the parking is WAY behind where it should be given the tech that is out there, parking seems like it should be WAY better, although removing sensors makes it tougher.

I think all these experiences are main explanation for why we don't have ASS yet. Im also aware of the autopilot stack merge reasoning that folks mention as well. I tend to think main reason though is that these parking scenarios show it isn't quite ready.

We used 14 3x yesterday, driving a total of about a 100 miles. We let it auto park twice (never used August park before then), the first time was a perpendicular stall & the second a diagonal. On both occasions the rear tire passenger side was almost on the line & it was indecisive for some reason on the diagonal stall, wiggling a few times left & right, before finally making the decision on where to park.

in both situations there were many stalls to chose from & no other traffic. So it had plenty of time to reposition if it wanted to.

I wish it would have an option for a school car line. At the school my son goes to there are 4 loops around the parking lot all cars go through to get to the area where we drop off our children. Maybe a way to just follow the cars in front instead of trying to find a parking space or trying to get to a different section of the school round about for curbside.

Curbside works at both of my kid's schools. Navigates all the various ways, mostly follows cars, then stops in the front and my kids get out.

Yes, they must add options for parking in spaces (and prioritizing) for handicap, food pickup, veterans, etc...!

And for V3. At least in my experiences so far. I have to back up up manually each time after it believes it’s finished.

It's been hit or miss for me. Sometimes good, other times at least a foot away from the curb.

What is, funny though, I wanted to park in an open spot in front of one car (with no other cars in front). It made maneuvers as if there were many cars parked in front (whereas I would just roll along the curb and back up), making maneuvers going into the center of the street.
