Had an opportunity here in the Bay Area to participate in the Robotaxi rollout and all I can say is WOW! Coming from a MX and CT with FSD, the upgrades in the Robotaxi are mind-boggling! Our CT hasn’t had the same FSD issues as others, outside of early left lane hogging and driving slower than I wanted it to. Haha. Its acceleration and deceleration was only ok to start but that’s been massively improved. We have zero issues with our CT and FSD and love it.
Now with that said, our short trip at night in the Robotaxi was flat out incredible! It started by completing a very difficult 3pt turn in a make shift alley way, so that it could head back towards an expressway. It drove 61mph in a 50mph zone, zipped past parked cars on tight turns, navigated around a cyclist in the dark who didn’t have a light, changed lanes twice in 200yds, and although I can’t say for certain, I think it slowed down to avoid a neighborhood cat! The ride was smooth, comfortable and my account music and podcasts came up the moment I entered the vehicle. There was a safety driver in the front seat as they are still waiting for California certification but she didn’t give one input command during the entire trip. (It will apparently also pull over for emergency vehicles based on what our driver said)
The 1 and only 1 issue, was that it somehow dropped us off on a street that was a 1/4 of a mile from the street and address it was supposed to. That slight mishap was made ok with the message I received when trying to leave a tip for the safety driver…
