I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when I connected my trailer, turned off trailer towing mode and then proceeded to tow with FSD. I got a warning message that the rear camera was obscured, but FSD worked. The hiccup is that the percentage of charge remaining at destination arrival was not accurate and the estimated range was not accurate. Anyone found a workaround for getting the range to accurately predict. It seems like FSD should give the accurate information since it knows your Wh/mile.

The workaround would be to use the Trip Planner to gauge your progress on the fly. Sure, the initial estimate might be way off, but you can gauge your progress against that. Pick a charge destination that you think is just obtainable and, as you drive you can see whether it's still realistic or you should go for a closer or further charge stop.

That's essentially what I did but was hoping there was a way to get the info without having to figure it out. When I use FSD, I generally just sit back and cruise!

On a recent road trip, the range estimates after charging seemed rational, until I hit the road at 85MPH. This clobbered my Wh/mi but the "SoC at destination" updated in real-time (which is how I knew to slow down lol).

The "range" shown on the upper-left of screen was waaaaay off, but the nav planner provided accurate info for my planned destination.

When you turn off towing mode, does that disable trailer brake, turn signals and night lights, brake coordination between truck and trailer?

I have such a light trailer that I didn't notice any difference in braking. The turn signals and running lights were working.

Grok says the 7-pin connection will allow all lights (brake lights, turn signals, backup lights, etc.) to work normally, but deselecting the Towing mode on the console disengages the electronic brake controller (coordination between CT and Trailer). For light trailers this may not be material, I'm towing a light RV (Casita, 17 feet Independence Deluxe, 3,500 lbs) and so for RV or boat/heavier towing weights, at least for me, the braking disconnect is a non-starter. Posting here for awareness.

85MPH? That consumes a lot energy! The power consumption is roughly proportional to the wind resistance, which is square of the speed. So compared with 65MPH, you need (85/65)^2~1.7x energy! So don’t drive too fast unless you have to.
