Full Underbody Powder Coating

Initial CT deliveries have been Ecoated then powder coated on the A, B & C pillars. The current production runs are fully powder coating the entire underbody including the battery enclosure. If you look under your CT and see black then your entire vehicle has been powder coated. If it's a greenish brown color battery tray then sadly it's not fully powder coated. Ecoating is a standard paint process in automotive paint shops where the entire body in white is electrocoated in pigments and baked in an oven for corrosion protection. Most likely anyone who held out for tactical gray interior will have the full powder coating.

*all CT's are Ecoated baked then powder coated and baked again. The early models (0-24000 ish) only were powder coated on the pillars but now the entire vehicle is powder coated top to bottom front to back.

This article from a year ago, before a single CT was delivered shows the subframe completely black. It seems odd they would be painting before production, then stop for production, then start again at a later time.

I've been looking at videos and pictures on the internet and it seems you are correct regarding early CTs. I see lots of examples of the greenish brown color battery tray. I have yet to find a black one posted.

You can see in the model Y gigacast the red overspray on the interior. No one cares about that from any manufacture because it just gets covered up.

But you can see the ecoat. In the background image below the pillars are powder coated merly for cosmetic purposes. It's what you see when you open the door.

Now the entire body is matte black totally covering the ecoat. Why? Just like the model Y and the over spay you'll never see it. Underneath you'll see the battery but that's it. It looks fucking cool though.

I've torn apart a battery box with the green coating and can attest that the coating is very robust and durable. No reason to have FOMO here folks you'll be fine...

Are you sure they didn't do away with the ecoat and are just powder coating now? Would be the more typical Tesla way, i.e. removing a process.

Actually, what I thought was powder coat is just a color change in the ecoat. They now have a separate PTED system where before they ran the CT through the model Y system. The CT is now using black ecoat in it's own process. They still powder coat the pillars but it's rather difficult to see black on black.
