Getting aggravated by being told the noises my truck makes are the same as every cybertruck

I chalk it up to “trucks are noisy”.. only start to worry if the noise changes significantly or becomes erratic..

coming from a ModelY I do find it ‘different’… but then again, it’s a truck.

we will really only know years from now.

luckily I don’t feel any constant weird vibrations.

Part of the problem is that this is a brand new product. Theres nothing else like this out there. The authority on whats normal for it and whats not is the manufacturer or its arm. (The SC of choice), which many have found to be quite subjective when it comes to “squeaks, creaks, rattles, and vibrations”
Very true. Different does not equal a problem.

Very true. Different does not equal a problem.
For example, I’m currently going back and forth with Tesla service as they claim that the deep gouges in the paint of my wheels caused by the OEM wheel covers are normal characteristics of the wheel covers… My argument is that OEM components should not cause damage to the vehicle through normal use.

Mine has a similar but different noise. Yours sounds more like something making a noise while spinning, therefore, the sound has a relatively clear period, but mine sounds more irregular. Also, it only appears when running on flat, newly paved roads in certain speed ranges, like ~30 MPH or 70-75 MPH.

I took it to the SC, and easily reproduced it. The technician says that it's a normal engine sound that happens when the engine is doing something equivalent to changing shifts. That does explain why it only appears in certain speed ranges. I'm not fully convinced, but considering that it's only mildly annoying, I didn't pursue further.
I had a Model 3 and a Model Y and they never made that sound and were silent. Now I have an X and a Cybertruck and they both make that sound. I think it’s “normal” with whatever they changed over the years.

That sounds very similar to mine. What is super frustrating is how unwilling the SC’s are to do the right thing. I had a clunking noise in my drivers seat that they couldn’t reproduce. I found a thread here about the same issue with the tech notes about how they fixed it. I shared the thread with them and they said they didn’t listen to the internet. I finally convinced them to look at it and they did the same fix as the other SC’s notes as a “courtesy” to me. What do you know? Fixed the issue. I don’t think we should have to beg for them to fix issues on a vehicle they know is far from perfect and has a lot of known issues.
There seems to be a lot of variance amongst service centers on this. There are several in Phoenix so in the past when I’ve run into this attitude I’ve just gone to a different SC and that has worked every time so far.
just a suggestion.

I don’t know if it’s the front motor, or the super manifold, or wind buffering - it is loud. I don’t think just saying “it’s a truck” is justifiable in this situation. Model Y is very quiet. F150 Lightning is even quieter, at any speed. You can without exaggeration hear a pin drop.

The motor should not make any noises unless it's the noise they filter into the cab on purpose. Any grinding or other noise besides the cool "power up" noise it makes is a cause for concern. If your SC will not fix the issue take it to another one.

I had the same weird noise from my motors and my local (at the time) SC stated it was in spec 4 different times. I take it to a new SC with a higher review rating and magically they heard the issue and fixed the issue (motor replacement + confirmation).

A lot of these techs don't want to do the hard jobs like a motor replacement for "weird noises" so they use the cop out statement "it's within spec" as a solution. But there are a lot of tech engineers who are actually hard working that's out here that will want to fix your issue because it's a pride and customer service thing.

Tape the sound in your loaner and post your truck and the loaner truck in the app. Start a lemon law paper trail

So, I dropped off my truck at a Tesla service center today so they can address my leaking tonneau cover and was given a loaner cybertruck. This is the second loaner cybertruck I’ve been given during service appointments.

I’ve had my truck in twice now for issues related to excessive drive motor noise, and loud squealing when I turn at low speed. Neither of the two loaners I’ve had make near the same noises that my truck makes. But in each case I was told that every cybertruck makes those noises and there’s nothing they can do about it. That is clearly BS because neither of the loaners I’ve gotten make the same kinds of noises. What in the world do I need to do to get them to actually address the issues instead of just telling me that it’s normal? I feel like they’re just leaning on the fact that because it’s an electric truck, they can just say that the noises are normal and everyone will go along with it instead of going ahead and fixing it. 😡
Is this sound like this?

If you start the video at 34 seconds you wont hear it but at around 38 seconds you start to hear it (may need headphones).

It’s hard to hear, but I think so. It sounds like a constant wind noise that only happens above a certain speed, usually around 45 or so.

Yeah it goes away around turns etc etc. I've been told multiple times its in spec and that other trucks make the same noise. I've had thew news almost entirely fade away if I turn on the slippery surface option. I'm not sure if its actually in spec though. Would need to ride in someones truck who swears their truck doesn't make this noise.

The loaner had it but it was much less obvious. Mine also makes awful squealing noises when turning at all at low speeds. They said that’s normal as well. I made an appointment at a different service center. Not for another month though. I’ll see what they say.

Keep us posted. For the squealing and this may have been asked earlier in the thread, but is the truck in motion when it squeals or stopped? If stopped the squealing is coming from the brake pads and that is normal.

I had a similar experience with weird noises. We waited 2-3 months then took the truck back and acted very concerned the noise was getting worse.
2 hours later they had it fixed.
Did they state what the noise was and how they fixed it?

It happens when still and when moving. Once it gets faster it seems to go away.
