For sure, when we took a 6,000 road trip in the X it was nice to have the safety net. I’d say that still today there are some backroad trips you could take without Superchargers that have other DC charges out there. It really just boils down to is the adapter cost worth the price to human purchasing it. For me under $150 is worth the extra comfort. That was probably a much bigger thing when you bought your Model X. The constantly increasing Supercharger locations means it's increasingly less of a thing. I would need a very compelling reason to get a DC charging adapter and actually use it, especially since third-party networks will be rolling out DCFCers with NACS connectors this year or early next year. Any CCS to NACS adapter is going to become increasingly worthless, perhaps without ever being used.
I didn't even want a DCFC adapter for CCS when I started road-tripping in an EV 8 years ago, a time when the number of Superchargers was but a small fraction of what's available now.
At the beginning of 2018 there were approximately 2,922 Supercharger connectors in North America. At the beginning of this year there were over 26,000, nine times as many, and the network continues to grow and buildout every single month. All the third party CCS DCFC combined only amount to 40% of all DCFCers while Superchargers make up 60%.
