Has anyone gotten a VIN before finalizing financing?

With a 12/26 order date, and others in my state getting deliveries, I think my time is approaching.

I haven’t completed the financing application in the app. Has anyone gotten a VIN without cokpleting the financing step? I was planning on waiting for a VIN, but didn’t want to cause a delay.

(I did a search of topics here, and found random replies and speculations, but wanted to get a more definitive discussion going.)

Yes, I have. I waited to get the VIN before I talked with my bank because your loan offer is usually time sensitive. What you can do in the meantime with that step is say you’re paying cash or put your bank information in with whatever amount you plan on getting a loan for. Payment to Tesla isn’t required until you actually accept the vehicle on delivery day. I always bring the bank check from my credit union with me on delivery day and give it up once I’ve checked the vehicle out.

Yes, VIN assignment is not at all associated with the financing/payment step . The $1000 order deposit is what allows for VIN assignment.

The optimal way to go about this, especially for new vehicles that are in the initial ramping phase, is to wait for a VIN before applying for financing. There will be no delays doing in this way and it will prevent the issue of loan application expiration before the vehicle is ready.

Yes, I received a VIN in advance of having financing. My financing wasn't finalized until 01.23.2024. Here is my timeline from reservation to delivery:
