How to seal and stop bed dust

When the vault is closed there is a massive gap at the tailgate, and if you drive down a dirt road, it is a vacuum environment and will pull dust in and literally get everything in the back dirty. Even driving on city streets and highways it pulls dirt in.
The “traditional” pickup solutions dont work because of the rear storage that lifts up.
Anyways it is a simple solution, get some closed cell self sticking foam 1/2 wide by 3/8 tall. Stick on the lid and the bedside gaps. For the handle gap its just a chunk of foam that the handle holds in place.
Clean bed at last!

I drove down 10 miles of dirt road yesterday and was surprised to find my gear in the bed of the truck covered in dust!

If y’all can stop dust from getting in your bed, all the power to you. I have owned many trucks and my Fords all have fancy electric tonneau covers that are sealed. I just took my F350 off roading last week on the Alpine Loop in SW Colorado and my bed (and golf clubs) were caked in dust afterwards. It’s par for the course (no pun intended) to get lots of dust in your bed when you off road. My Gladiator has a permanent red dust layer in that bed with a sealed tonneau cover from Moab’s terrain.

It’s part of truck/bed ownership. If y’all find a way to keep it out, do share… because I haven’t figured it out.

The method in this thread or any other case of adding some weatherstripping to the bottom edge of the CT bed pretty much accomplishes it. I put some D weather stripping on mine with the foam under the latch and it stops nearly all the dust for me.

Yeah … but on super fine dusty roads, it’s not the door that is the issue but the sides. My bed doors are sealed on my other vehicles but the fine dust gets through the sides where the slats ride. I have to blast them out with water or they crust up. Same issue with the CT. That fine dust is nasty. I wish I saved a pic of my ford after my ride. That dust got in places that I never expected.

Some still gets in at the corners, but could be eliminated if I cared enough. The on the sides where the tonneau cover goes, the top and bottom seals on mine do a very good job keeping the dust out. I can blast down those roads and don't get much, if any real accumulation of dust.

thanks for the input. And your using the weather stripping 3/8th by 1/2 the other owner with the video demonstrated?

Mine is 5/8" x 5/8" but I'm sure 1/2" is more than enough.

Since I made my video, I realized that the stripping comes off after opening and closing the tailgate a few times because the tailgate pushes the stripping down, effectively removing it from where it was attached.

Have y'all experienced the same issue, and if so, discovered a fix?
