I need a place to vent!

I am Tesla Evangelist of sorts... this truck is my 3rd Tesla, 4th if you count the wife's M3P and I have gone all over telling eveyone about how great these cars are and how the company gets some bad press but the reality is I've always had great experiences. Even my bad situations have been made great by the service centers!

  • I have a CT
  • I have the Powershare Equipment installed for several weeks now.
  • I do not have a Powerwall or Solar
  • I have called and verified all my software is up to date on the Wall Charger, The Gateway and my Truck
  • I have a Ticket in to Tesla

I'm sitting here sweltering in the power outage due to the hurricane that smacked us. I cannot use Powershare because Tesla has not added the option on my app or truck screen. I have made 8 calls to Tesla and got passed around until I found a person that could help and the best they could do is a ticket and wait for weeks. I asked the installer to give them a kick and see if they could help I am still waiting on that response.

I know what some of you are thinking and yes I am better off than a lot of people... I have the bed outlets running a couple of fans and my fridge. It's better than nothing ... I will tell you even with these fans I literally sweated through my pillow last night. I am just frustrated I have all this right there and all it seemingly would take is someone to enable my truck so I can use what I paid for... these events come around every few years where it's needed and it feels bad to have just paid the $5K to prevent this and I am still held hostage to Tesla and the we'll get to it later attitude.

Sorry I needed to vent this seemed like a good place to let it out ... I am secretly hoping Tesla sees this post... I'll go back to my sauna now.

In case people are wondering the timeline....
Power went out 3 nights ago(jul 8) it's now day 4(jul 11). I can see that the trees on the powerlines are still not cleared and are still blocking the roads so I expect repair in my area has not even begun and it will still be days. The last time I was hit with a hurricane(Ike in 2008) it took 9 days to restore, the damage in my area seems at least double what Ike was so my expectations are low.

UPDATE : Day 5(7/12)
Still no power at my house although Houston proper is now down to less than 1M without power. I tried the Screen Reboot again, I also tried it with the brake engaged although I am not sure that did anything different. No joy!

UPDATE : Day 6(7/13)
No power, no internet, no hope...
Just got the word it's another 4 days estimated. I'm looking forward to Monday when it's headed for upper 90s and a feels like in the 110 area.

I spoke to my installer and they have several people in the Houston Area that in the same position I am, all equipment ready no option to enable. At least I have company in my misery.

FINAL UPDATE: (7/23)

The installer came back out today at the request of Tesla. When I got the notice for the visit I checked my app and no option was available as expected.

The installer showed up and connected with the Tesla One app. All he did was look at the SW version and verified it was up to date. He then knocked on my door and I opened the app to show him that could see the gateway and wall connector in the app and option had appeared! I do not know if his opening the gateway in Tesla One did anything. I know they had been talking to Tesla for several days before coming out. Maybe it was fortuitous timing maybe not. We enabled the option, threw the main breaker and one second later my truck was powering my whole house.

Sorry to hear that. Your venting is not misdirected. While it is understandable that early adopters should expect some growing pains, Tesla has been around long enough that these administrivia things shouldn't devolve into making the customer feel neglected. And, rightfully so. What possible reason can Tesla have to not enable the system once installed?

Perhaps the installer did not finish the final step of activating it on their end or calling Tesla to verify it is complete, or whatever they should do to make the pieces communicate with Tesla. But, even if the installer didn't set up the equipment to connect, Tesla should be a little more on-the-ball. At least when it comes to getting you to the right person who can help you.

Especially in a natural disaster.

Tesla and FEMA have something in common.

Sorry for your situation, I could imagine your frustration.

Is Powershare even viable for an outage lasting this long? Buy a whole home generator and never worry about this problem again.
You are kidding right... at my normal day to day consumption a full charge on my truck would last for almost 4 days. I suspect I can stretch that to 5 if I needed by not using the high power appliances like washing and drying clothes the oven etc, however I can drive a few miles away where there is power and a working supercharger. So I can shut down for an hour charge and have 4 more days so yes very viable.

I'm sorry but this is a kinda the point ... I got the truck so I would not have the issues and maintenance expense of dealing with a home generator which neighbors do have so I am well versed in this... and in the last storm(Ike) I had no Natural Gas for 24 days, so it would have been useless... and right now gasoline is hard to come by, and propane is at a premium. When I went to cook on our gas stove last night I noticed the pressure is low, this is also an issue.

Having been through a few nasty hurricanes in NJ including Irene and Sandy (lost power for 8 days, estimated restoration was ~30 days) I know multiple backup options are ideal and the powershare backup from Cybertruck is a key value proposition. Sending good vibes and hoping Tesla can get you going since it looks like your utilities in Texas are having a hard time recovering.

In the past Elon has pushed software updates or major changes for natural disasters. Stuff like free supercharging to any cars leaving the scene, etc. Maybe if you post on X and get enough folks to retweet or whatever viral thing X does, you can get him to push the team faster.

In a time like this, it would be a good idea to do 2 things:

1) revise your plans for these situations and improve your redundant resource/methodology. Sounds like you need a solar array at least.

2) drive around the area and give yourself a bit of perspective to reflect on how lucky you are to have a house that's still in one piece.

During hurricane Floyd in the 90's, my area was without power and road access for 2 weeks, but we were thankful to not be completely underwater like most of the people around us. Volunteering is probably a helpful thing to do; especially if you work for a company that hands out PTO for it.

I installed an outlet to my circuit panel. Turned off the main and use the cyber Truck 220power lights and fans. I had to set up for a generator.

Sorry this is happening to you, I posted about a similar issue with getting PowerShare to show up in the Charging section of the Cybertruck's UI after everything was installed. I had the same back-and-forth with Tesla, and it finally showed up after I did the double-scroll-wheel reset. Have you given that a try yet? You hold down both scroll-wheels on the squircle for 10-ish seconds and the screen reboots.

You've probably already tried that, but that's what worked for me. Best of luck to you.

We enabled the option, threw the main breaker and one second later my truck was powering my whole house.

In case you didn't know you too can download the Tesla One application and commission a Tesla product. This was new to me.
