interior : below cup holder question

the front panel of the box below the cup holder feels thin and hollow. seems like a relatively good place to mount a pistol holster. has anyone seen what is inside that area, so I don't run a screw through something important?

Lots of important electronics…but the cover pops off easily so you could remove and drill off car. Downside is that panel is held on by clips only, so too much weight might pop it off during hard braking.

Another option for sidearm storage, though it is not in the spot you asked about and obviously a longer reach but I have this thread on watch should I decide to get one.

It is at least somewhat secure and LE less likely to have issue with the item not in view and put away. Yes, I'd already been stopped for speeding. They marveled at how many cameras the CT has.

I popped that cover off when I tapped power from the center console to run under the floor to the dash. That thing just pops out and I seem to remember a fair amount of empty space behind it.

I'm with you. Thought of the same thing. I've taken mine off as others have stated to do lighting just using a plastic trim removal tool. I was considering this and either attaching it directly or putting one on each side of the panel to hold it.
