Alot of energy goes into making batteries. That's alot of waste that hydrogen storage can skip. And in the energy to mass hydrogen storage also has batteries beat.

There's a place for it, just not in cars.

Yes, a lot of energy goes into making batteries, but you only make it once. With hydrogen, every time you fuel up, you're wasting energy that doesn't have to be wasted.

But you're storing energy that wouldn't otherwise be storable, since you need alot of energy and resources to make batteries.

Hydrogen is perfect for peaker plants - it turns on quickly, and it ramps up storage cheaply.

But weirdly, all the money that was to go to develop them went to companies like Nikola who only had napkin plans. Which is just weird. I wonder how it might have been if the few companies that did have the tech got the money instead of con-men.

GM has been pretty busy working on their next generation EVs for about 4-5 years now. So far this is what they have announced they'll have by 2025 globally:

30 EVs by 2023 (20 in the US)

6 EV factories:
Michigan: Production begins this month
China: Production begins Q1 2022
Tennessee: Production begins Q2 2022
Canada: Production begins Q4 2022
Mexico: Production begins 2023
#6 location in the US not yet announced

5 Battery Factories (Each the size of Giga Nevada):
China: Production began last month
Ohio: Production begins Q2 2022
Tennessee: Production begins 2023
#4 and #5 locations in the US not yet announced
believe it when I see it !

The Big Block in question is around seventy years old with some updated manufacturing that required minimal r&d. My 65 Chevy gets better mileage than my Mini. GM engineers were pretty good back in the day but has always had a reputation of being hobbled by management. Things are changing and I hear that engineers now manage but maybe not fast enough.
