I want performance. I'm not buying a "truck", I'm buying the tech and performance.

Assuming a weight of 6500#, the online calculator says you need 1034 HP (in an ICE) to get to 2.99 sec 0-60. Another says an electric direct drive with performance tires needs 755hp, but with normal tires, you can't get below 3.08 sec

That said, the CT is getting competition. The new price on the MS Plaid is tempting (And blindingly fast) and the rumors of the M3+Ludacris make me want to take a moment and think. Since I'm not in a position to brag about where I am in the reservation que, I have time to make a decision.

If I could pick and choose, I'd take the MSPlaid, add the 4WS of the CT, the display of the CT, and some of the yet to be mentioned tech of the CT, and I'm good. I'll sacrifice down to sub 3 sec 0-60 to get the tech, but not much more. I've waited for a loooong time to buy a 3.X second rocket. I've only recently abandoned a turbocharged flat 6 for a multi-motor electric setup. But now the I have, there is no going back.

Model S Plaid is no joke. I own one and prior to that, had a 2017 Model S P100D with the Ludicrous Plus mode.

The tri-motor in the S Plaid really shines during corners. It's very easy to slide out the rear-end just enough to have some fun, before the car corrects itself. S Plaid is the best vehicle I have owned, by far. It rides well, and looks like a normal vehicle, but can beat anything off-line. The power also never gets old. I've gone head-to-head against a couple of GTRs and it's not even a competition.

Cybertruck with the Beast Mode will be, well, a beast. Imagine a monster truck going 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds. Amazing!

I have every *expectation* the base dual motor will match the Lightning Lariat ER’s 3.9 sec 0-60

from there, one has to imagine, to justify the segmentation of trim, what the ‘performance’ / cyber-“beast” version will have to do

your physics/rubber questions noted, but more begs the question of what rubber they’d have to offer on that model (if one wants to achieve the speed)

put differently, will it ever make sense to pay for a performance trim but put ATs on it?

pay for all that Performance vs base, the. hobble it?

I accept all of the above pitfalls of the Performance Option! - I still want one! And will have both Street and Dirt Rim/Wheel setups so I can leverage for divergent use cases....

To eek 3.9 out of it, takes a good charge, and a good launch.

But yes, large trucks sitting high off the ground don’t ‘feel’ as fast as - say - a BMW M3 with the same 0-60 down where you see the pavement rushing by.

Relatedly, however: to someone in a BMW M3, watching the Lightning keep up with it, the Lightning looks surprisingly fast from their POV.


PS: Sounds like you’re used to an S Plaid. coffee doesn’t feel like much after enough cocaine.

Also, calling the multiple cycle testing 'an advantage' is not a true statement. It could find inefficiencies in the vehicle too, so it's a cost/performance risk.

Tesla gets their EPA stats to the EPA test cycle. You drive 70, you aren't getting them because the EPA method doesn't test for that.

I'm sure in my mountains I'd get the EPA range easily.
