Hey there,

I’ve tapped Into the rear view mirror Housing’s white connector for my Escort Redline 360c and it worked fine for three days.
Then all of a sudden it stopped providing power.
I don’t have a multimeter to test but I did test with another car with the cigarette port adapter and it did turn on.
I went into the service menu and didn’t see any alerts. What’s my best course of action here?

I tapped into the radio module above the driver. I unplugged the radio so it wouldn’t be pulling as much power. And if you’re using the radio, then you probably shouldn’t be driving a CyberTruck. That’s like using a record player while driving a CyberTruck 🤣

What does the radio module look like?

Check the mirror tap with a multimeter. Sometimes they jiggle out. That had happened on one of my Fords and I had to reseat it. You can buy a cheap multimeter at Home Depot or Walmart.

If it wiggled out, my cabin camera would be off since that white connector powers the cabin camera right?

I checked, it didn’t wiggle out. But I also don’t have a multimeter, I’d have to go pick one up.

No. You used a mirror tap which means you are pushing a small; pin into the back of a connector and it may or may not make solid contact. That is the problem with mirror taps as they don't always make a good connection and they can come loose when the car bounces around.

My bets are that you don't have a solid connection and need to reseat it or you have a break in the line of your mirror tap. I seriously doubt the camera line is blown, but it's certainly possible, albeit remote. A multimeter is a requirement. In fact, I ALWAYS use a multimeter when I install mine just to verify the power connectors and that they are actually working.

To start with, do you have the camera working? Look at it on your console and/or put it in dog mode and see if you get the video from your phone app. If that works then it's definitely your mirror tap. If you have no video on the camera, then something is wrong with the camera power line.

Makes sense. Yeah I have the camera feed and the IR illumination/camera is functioning. Tested with sentry mode at night last night. I suspect that my tap line broke.

Should have searched the forum to see the multitude of posts from people making the same mistake. People have been reporting that there have been interference with certain modules when tapping into that feed; I don't suggest using it.

Maybe you are lucky and the truck has temporarily disable power to that rail to prevent harm. Either way, some folks have come to find out that expensive parts are being friend because of 3rd party devices hooking into the harness.

I saw two posts on it. They all said once they unhooked the device the IR interference went back to normal.
I bought a usb c connector to route into the center console instead.

much appreciated for the picture. did you use T tap on the wires?

im about to install my V1
No just unplugged the radio, then plugged in the wires into the harness, so there and no “permanent “ modifications. Then used some electrical tape to keep them from falling out. Ideally I would like to find out what the connector type was and do a proper plug and play solution.

I had tapped into a couple of wires and switched just recently to another solution. I now utilize the 120v outlet under the rear screen and have a cigarette lighter adapter under the front passenger seat and run a USB-C cord up the right side A pillar to the headliner down to a LCD rearview mirror. The mirror I purchased came with an lighter power adapter.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DFVGCNC6 15' USB-C
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D7GX6MDY 3' Extension
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2D3XFK5 12v cigarette lighter adapter

The 120v outlet switches off when I exit and turns on when I enter. If I use low power mode it will not turn on when I enter. I bought a flat extension cord and used some double sided tape to keep it out of the way of rear passengers. There is a small LED light that is partially blocked by the outlet cord. Other than that its hard to see.

Interesting solution.

my problem was that my tap was bad, after I got a new tap things started working again.

I need the rear 120v for my Starlink otherwise I would’ve used the usb c in my center console.
