Easy to be a tough guy when it's just yourself but when the kids are getting blowback, it's much harder. Sorry you're going through this. None of us should judge if you have to give it up, but it stings letting the terrorists win one.

Thinking of Selling My Cyberbeast – Need Some Advice

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a proud Cyberbeast owner since late August, and let me tell you—when I first got it, I absolutely loved it. Every time I got behind the wheel, it put a smile on my face. The performance, the design, the whole experience—it really lived up to the hype for me.

But lately, I’m struggling.

I commute into NYC from New Jersey for work, and the hate this truck gets here is honestly starting to wear me down. It’s not just dirty looks—I’ve had random people flip me off, walk up to my truck shouting at me, and just give off a ton of hostility. Normally, I’d brush it off, but my young kids are often in the car with me. Recently, they’ve started getting picked on at school because of it, and that’s where it crossed the line for me.

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m seriously considering selling it. I still love the truck, but I don’t think I can enjoy it anymore under these circumstances.

Has anyone gone through something similar? Do you know if Tesla would buy back the truck? Mine’s a Cyberbeast with around 4,000 miles on it. I realize I’ll probably take a loss, but at this point, I’m looking for peace of mind.

Any advice or insight would mean a lot. Thanks in advance
I'm so sorry. It's crazy to think we live in a world where you get harassed this badly for owning a car. Humans are f****ng stupid. Good luck, and again, I'm really sorry ?

I just got my CT Saturday. Absolutely loving it! I'm in Northern California and have had zero weird interactions after about 500 miles. Most people don't know what it is and are curious, and the rest are fans. I'm sure I've passed a hater or two on the road and didn't even notice. This truck is awesome...don't let anyone else change your opinion simply because they're uninformed.

Consider this: when your kids are in high school and bad influences are at their peak (drugs, sex, etc.) you’re going to tell them about peer pressure and making their own choices based on what they know is right. Do you want them to be able to say “isn’t that why you sold that cybertruck thing you used to have? So you’d fit in better and not be made fun of?”

If you really love the truck, and think its a long term vehicle for you, maybe consider leasing the cheapest model 3 you can find. Drive it for a while, and as things do, this will cool down. The cost of a model 3 lease over 3 years is likely to be far less than the loss of equity from the sale of this truck. Based on your usage of this truck since August, I think you wont have any issues with mileage.

I would definitely not take a loss on the truck for a few more months, if you can stomach it. If the robotaxi network goes live for Tesla owners, maybe you can put the truck to work, and it'll pay for its self. Cybertruck is perfectly suited to handling autonomous deliveries of goods, as well as people. Even if you don't choose to do that personally, the resale value will climb for people scouring the country for used Cybertrucks to put to work. If June 12 is a success, we could be 3 to 18 months away from this being a reality. I think very soon no one will ever need to trade in a Tesla and take depreciation again. I also think very soon every vehicle purchase will have potential to be a commercial vehicle purchase, and us common folks will have access to the business owner section 179 tax deduction.

I am sorry you're family is being exposed to all of this bullying. For a group of people that claim to be all about love, and against hate, it sure doesn't feel like they are projecting that, towards innocent people.

That's a shame. I cannot relate to this.. No hate here. Maybe because we carry guns with us in the west...

I'm sorry you're going through this. Instead of giving in to bullying or hate, consider teaching your kids resilience and standing up to negativity. In some Western states, people value privacy and keep to themselves, which might reduce conflict. You could explore relocating to a less toxic environment or stay and address the issue head-on. The choice is yours, but modeling strength for your kids could be a powerful lesson.

Thanks so much for the reply when I meant buy it back I was not referring what I paid for it just sell it back at market value I know I’ll take it but maybe a model 3 or or Y they don’t seem to get any hate but the beast get major hate
As others have said - "Don't sell it!" what surprises me most about your story is the kids. My XP is that kids love the truck! If NJ kids are that twisted by libtard parents consider a different school. As others indicated admitting that the peer pressure caused you to sell a truck you all seem to love would be the wrong message to your kids.

You’re joking but honestly I think that this would disarm a lot of people that want to be assholes. I wouldn’t drive around with it but as camouflage for a few more months or years until it dies down this might be the way for OP to enjoy his truck and silent some of the douche bags
I'm thinking that a hippie-style "Peace, Love, and Understanding" ecology motif wrap might disarm the haters...

Why let others dictate how you live? Complain to school officials. File a lawsuit if they do no make it stop. Fight the good fight.

I understand the dilemma; the fear is real, especially when one's kids are involved. (We drive one in Staten Island, and things have been OK lately, maybe one flipped bird in the past month. And when we drive to, say, rural Pennsylvania or NJ, we only get positive comments and questions. And even in Manhattan, we get positive interest from some of the masses of tourists on the sidewalks, especially we think from the internationals who have apparently never seen one IRL.) BUT, considering the money you would lose, you could garage the Cybertruck for literally years, and lease a Y or whatever, until all this totally blows over, and still be ahead on money, especially in terms of personal long-term net worth... In other words, I think it would be a mistake to lock in the loss (and any associated replacement cost) immediately; hopefully it will no longer even be a thing over time, now that Elon is mostly out of Washington D.C. (And maybe it won't. But you can always sell it later for not very much more of a markdown, if any; or perhaps an uptick in price if FSD ever lives up to it's true potential and becomes worth much, much more...)

((It's a truck, you need to get like 15 years out of it to make any sense financially. Hopefully it will be driving you around someday while you totally relax; or out making money on the Tesla Cybercab network...))

As mentioned by another poster. Keep the truck and buy a beater if you can. After Summer the crazies might find another thing to direct their stupidity towards. And if not then the value probably won't be much lower than you would get today after school starts up again. I'm on the west coast in So. Cal. fortunately there are many CTs here. So people are just accustomed to seeing them. I don't think most people know the difference between a Beast and an AWD on the road. Its just a CT to them. Being that Tesla has slowed down production they may not be buying pre owned CTs. Tesla is in business to make money, so you will take a hit if Tesla did buy it back just like any car dealership trade. Good luck and get some pepper spray.

That’s a bummer with the hate you have received. Portland has given its fair share.. I have even had friends of mine who didn’t yet know I drove one be like, “what Deuche drives that?”, to find out it’s me and they know who I am and my personality and feel kinda bad they judged so hard.
So in the face of bad stares (from adults not kids.. kids at my elementary LOVE it), I think of Ted Lasso in the dart scene when he quotes Walt Whitman - “Be Curious, not judgemental.” Because if those angry people were curious, the would know the reasons why I bought it. Like I had wanted a truck since 2017 and started saving for it, but wanted an EV. Then 2020 and Covid hit and in my job I responded on over 36 gunshot victims (due to horrible Portland policies), and being stuck inside so much during Covid, I channeled my angst towards learning about EVs.. in all my studying, I found Tesla was far and away the leader and that cybertruck I made fun of in 2019 had a lot of appeal..
now it is the greatest piece of machinery I have ever driven.. and I realize all those people are just exposing themselves for being judgmental… they aren’t curious why I got it. So that’s a them problem, not me… it also challenges me in where I might be judgemental….
