Thinking of Selling My Cyberbeast – Need Some Advice

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a proud Cyberbeast owner since late August, and let me tell you—when I first got it, I absolutely loved it. Every time I got behind the wheel, it put a smile on my face. The performance, the design, the whole experience—it really lived up to the hype for me.

But lately, I’m struggling.

I commute into NYC from New Jersey for work, and the hate this truck gets here is honestly starting to wear me down. It’s not just dirty looks—I’ve had random people flip me off, walk up to my truck shouting at me, and just give off a ton of hostility. Normally, I’d brush it off, but my young kids are often in the car with me. Recently, they’ve started getting picked on at school because of it, and that’s where it crossed the line for me.

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m seriously considering selling it. I still love the truck, but I don’t think I can enjoy it anymore under these circumstances.

Has anyone gone through something similar? Do you know if Tesla would buy back the truck? Mine’s a Cyberbeast with around 4,000 miles on it. I realize I’ll probably take a loss, but at this point, I’m looking for peace of mind.

Any advice or insight would mean a lot. Thanks in advance

Thats horrible that your experience has been so bad. I was really worried for a few months about mine and the trucks safety when all of the political stuff got bad but it seems to have died down a whole lot. I can imagine that NyC/NJ is still pretty bad… ive only gotten 1 finger this month so thats my gauge.

i personally would not sell it because of that, but if if its wearing on your daily life, its worth considering.

i do not think Tesla would buy back for this reason however. Usually those are reserved for repeated mechanical or severe cosmetic defects that cant be fixed (as opposed to a lemon designation)

i hope the slander dies down for you because it is an absolute beauty of a machine, not to mention a pretty efficient truck.

Good luck with your choice

Sorry to hear about your kids getting picked on. As adults, it's easy to blow off the negativity, ignore the hate and ignorance, but the kids.....

My advice, coming from someone without kids and in California (we're practically brothers ;) ), is to wait, because the idiots will find something new and shiny to hate on sooner than you think.

The only thing that won't change with time is the love for your bad-ass truck!

They are now accepting CT trade ins but you willl take a BIG hit on value. If you are serious about selling, try carsandbids

I understand your concerns. I live in rural southern Illinois. I have owned my CT since last July. I too love the vehicle. I have had what I guess to be 99% positive reactions to my CT. In the time I have owned the CT I have received the finger once or twice. Two thumbs down, many inquiries- a surprising number wanting to know who makes it, if it’s a truck,, etc.
Despite the minimal negative responses, I admit that I judge whether to drive my CT or model Y for various trips - partly because of the time it takes to answer questions, parking, state of charge, etc.
I would feel very uncomfortable in an environment such as you describe.
I have the privilege of deciding whether I take my Modal Y, CT, or Toyota 2013 SUV on a particular trip.
If the Beast was my only vehicle in your environment, and I really liked and had use for the Beast, I think I would seriously consider getting a “beater” for the cost I would incur if I had to sell the Beast at a loss. You might have problems I don’t have with parking etc. Our 2013 Toyota Highlander sort of fills that role for us. We bought it for about the price of the tax on our CT ?. My wife uses it for various things, where she doesn’t want to get our Teslas messed up, and we have it as a last resort for us as transportation. I only use it to drive it back and forth to the mechanic ?. Such a car might be good to get your kids to school or whatever, where you wouldn’t feel comfortable driving the CT.
I will say that I’m finding fewer and fewer cases where I opt against taking th CT. I’m
Looking forward to an 800 mile round trip to the east coast and beach in the next few weeks, and the devil take those who don’t like my CT along the way!
Peace!

Similar to what others have posted, I too have been called a nazi and gotten the one finger salute. But then, I remember all the literally hundreds of positive reactions I have received in the last year of ownership. Use the experience to teach your kids about envy, so called tolerant intolerance, and at the same time how to be a good person even in the face of it all.

Do not let others make you do what you don’t want to do, don’t give up.

I'd say it also depends on your total solvency and willingness to leave a lot of money on the table. It's probably the worst time window right now. If you have another vehicle to commute with and a place to store your truck I'd wait for the news cycle to change gears. For myself I don't drive the truck into town but reserve it for farm chores and camping.

The positives far outweigh the negatives in my area, been a few months sense I seen a finger solute, if they talking smack I can’t here them over “money for nothing and my chicks for free” music. But with kids harassing kids at school, that sucks but even if you sell it those bulleys will still be at that school, they will just switch to the shoes they are wearing or whatever they feel like bullying.

Maybe park the truck till the hate dies off in your area. Or take them to school in another car and see if the bully’s subside.

In Miami, every 3rd car is a cyber. Maybe move

I went through the same thing with my truck. I’m starting to move past it, but honestly, it’s been tough. What really gets me is worrying that my kids might pick up on it—especially since they love the truck. I looked into selling it, but the financial hit is just too steep. I’ve had it for over a year, so I’ve seen all the phases—initial excitement, the attention and novelty, and now, the backlash.

At first, the constant stares and questions felt like too much. But nothing compares to the outright hate—shouts, middle fingers, that kind of thing. I’ve added a few stickers lately that seem to shift the reactions a bit more positively, but I still worry about vandalism.

Maybe things will start to cool off now that Elon’s stepped away from the political spotlight, but he really left a mark. He polarized the brand, and now we’re the ones who have to live with the fallout. Most people who aren’t seeing this kind of negativity probably don’t live in the Northeast.

I just bought a camper trailer, been hauling heavy loads in the bed, sand, mulch, using it as a truck. I love it everyday more and more. Just hope the hate goes away, hold out. Stickers help depending on the message.

You’re joking but honestly I think that this would disarm a lot of people that want to be assholes. I wouldn’t drive around with it but as camouflage for a few more months or years until it dies down this might be the way for OP to enjoy his truck and silent some of the douche bags

Selling it would give the bullies and crazies validation, and further reason to bully and target others. I would strongly consider moving for your family's sake to a location where you don't feel the need to even think about why your kids are being bullied.

I've been all over the world, and NYC is the most disgusting, wretched place I had the displeasure of visiting. And I've spent time in the horn of Africa.

So I think the main problem here is where you have your family located. Your kids know you love the truck. Don't send them the message that 'bullying pays off', by selling.
