I bought one of these, and an extra right and left to have spares, after my wrap guy broke one off moving it in his shop. They were $40 in December..... they were rev C but still that's a lot of inflation!

Ordered online and they shipped to my house.

With our version of the Cybertruck, it’s future is uncertain, I’m ordering and collecting parts that will need replacement over time like Offroad parts getting knocked off
Or wear parts like replacement wiper

I think there's a federal requirement to supply parts/service for officially discontinued models. Something like 8yrs. So, you should have time.

I think we do know. MG made a total of about 50k MG models in the T series (TA though TF) from the late 30s through 1954. I have no problem getting parts for my 1951 MG-TD, of which about 29k were made. If I’m getting parts for a low volume car that hasn’t been made for 55 years with a manufacturer that’s long out of business, I’m not too worried about parts for my CT even if Tesla somehow fails. There will be a robust aftermarket and used parts supply.

The bigger issue for us is that classic cars are all mechanical and electrical, no electronics. My MG wasn’t even available with a heater, much less a radio. My CT requires internet connectivity for even basic functions, and its CPU will become outdated within a decade, will eventually lose support from the mother ship. There will be no malice, likely some sadness in Tesla HQ when they announce termination of support, but there will be no choice, just as Apple has had to abandon its first six versions of the iPhone, with more rolling off support every year.

My house came with five iPads when newly built in 2013 to run its automated functions. The iPads all still technically work fine, but are in a drawer because they cannot run the current versions of the Apple Savant home automation software, as the iOS level is far beyond support, can no longer be updated, and more modern updates of the apps won’t work on the installed iOS.

Some may call this planned obsolescence, but I just see it as progress. That progress cost me $50k in upgraded Mac mini, iPads, cameras, and TVs to keep my Apple house running, at about the eight year point. I expect similar bills every five to eight years going forward.

We cannot have nice things, and everything we think we own actually owns us. Our CTs will last slightly longer than cell phones but will become obsolete much faster than former generations of automobiles. Yes, until then we get OTA updates and new features, but there aren’t new features arriving now on the first MS models, which will whither away. They do receive OTA updates for now, but only patches and fixes. And when their connectivity hardware becomes incompatible with updated mobile phone technology, that’ll be the end of the line.
