Tesla Cybertruck Nintendo Switch 2 on dashboard - is this unsafe? IMG_0602
I added a MagSafe phone holder so it’s just attached by a magnet. I worry this will interfere will airbag deployment though.

It probably won’t interfere with air bag deployment but it can turn into a flying projectile from the air bag knocking it off the magnetic mount.

Agree a bit, if ya don't mind a Wii flying at ya at 100mph in microseconds then it's fine. Kind of dangerous is think as never plan for accidents.

Heck I worried a bit recently when Tesla routed "through software and vision" they can now deploy airbags in milliseconds before an accidental crash versus sensors. I don't trust Teslas software 100% on safety items yet.

Aaron I understand it, the vision system allows the airbag system to trigger on a shorter accelerometer signal. It doesn't unilaterally set off the big air bags.

I don't understand this sentiment. They make the safest vehicles on planet earth.

Why does it have to be there? I can think of many reasons why it shouldn’t.

I have two iPads on the driver side(one behind the steering wheel) and a monitor on the passenger side. The airbags will make them projectiles but only if you're involved in a frontal crash that is severe enough to push the (radiator?)inwards. Steel bumpers can help prevent the radiator from hitting the trigger switch behind it in most cases.

While there are sensors in the front, they sense acceleration not direct contact with the sensor. The main airbag control module is mounted in the cabin and also reacts to acceleration events.
Radiator is not located in front of the sensors, it's below/ behind the cross beam.
A steel bumper may increase inital impact force and thus increase the likelihood of airbag triggering.

Was hoping someone like you would respond. So they use accelerometers instead of trigger switches like some other brands. Do they get disabled in off-road mode? Sometimes a wheel slipping and the side dropping down sets off airbags in other trucks. A buddy had his 4runner deploy airbags while offroading because he didn't put it in 4L which disables the sensors.

That's an interesting edge case. I have no insight into Tesla's internal software functionality, but it seems like the door pressure sensors would be drop immune. If you tipped into a rock though? 🤔
