Well I got to say I haven't had any complaints to speak of. But when you're towing something even a simple trailer and they take FSD away from you it really makes me appreciate FSD even more and it drops my usage of FSD down that disappoints me as much as not having it. For those are going to tell me why this is happening I understand rear camera can't judge some of the things someday they'll figure all that out love FSD

GM has the only system that will do it, and even it won't lane change. I think it's just too much risk with all that hardware that isn't theirs back there.

Hey, you just reminded me of something. I towed my small trailer to the dump this weekend. I used FSD all the way there without thinking about it. Then, on the way back, FSD wouldn't not engage. My wife asked if it was because we were in towing mode. I don't think so. But, prior to the trip back, I "selected" my preset trailer and when driving, had the little green camper symbol on the screen. On the way to the dump, I did not do that and had an amber camper symbol.

Anyway, I had FSD while towing. It was nice and unexpected.

Was it blue on the return trip?

in order for fsd to work, trailer mode meeds to be off. I have a hitch tent that completely blocks my tailgate cam. as long as trailer mode is off it will fsd (forward, obv in reverse it assumes an obstacle).

Yes. It was blue for the return trip. Seeing this, I must have had towing mode disabled for the trip there. The trailer isn't very heavy and doesn't have brakes.

I would be leery to tow with FSD.

It's not designed to work with towing and may not take into account the trailer when changing lanes or turning. Of course it's supervised, so you are responsible to watch that.

Someone complained that FSD wrecked their bike with a bike rack on the back of their truck, but again, they are not using it for the designed intent and obviously not monitoring.

you can still use traffic aware cruise control, correct? While towing? Even that would be a bonus over (gasp) manually driving.

this is very true. I just have small hitch attachments. lane changes might be scary.

How does one disable trailer mode or use Tacc?

For TACC, you do it from the Autopilot menu where you enable autopilot. Just disable it for the trip. Bingo, TACC.

Disabling trailer mode was something I did NOT do on purpose. I suppose when I selected "Towing", I must have hit a "disable towing mode" somewhere.

Sorry can't be more specific.

Side cameras cannot judge if a lane is clear with a trailer attached. You run the risk of butting a vehicle in the adjacent lane if you drive with a trailer in FSD. Recently did a trip from Michigan to Florida pulling a camper. Traffic aware cruise works great with a trailer.

TACC is only speed control though, still need to steer...
...but not needing to track speed is nice.

I own an equipment rental company and tow things all the time. One day a customer asked us to repair a towable hot water pressure washer for them. I picked it up about an hour away and had to suffer all the way home and actually had to drive. It was horrible. When the machine was repaired a few days later one of my newer employees forgot to attach the lights. The truck did not know it was towing a trailer, but thought a car was riding our butt the whole trip. I watched it like a hawk, but it did allow FSD to control the trip. It was daylight, and the weather was dry and sunny. Possibly because it believed the car riding my butt was there it seemed to change lanes much less and I also had it in sloth mode for most of that trip. I hope that as the AI gets more trailer info they are able to help folks with trailers be safer.
