Painful on the Knees, Crawling in the Bed of my CT

There's only been a few occasions that I've needed to get up into the bed of the truck to hook a strap to one of the tie downs.
The lands on the floor are very hard on the knees. Now, I take a couple small pieces of plywood along and place them where I need to kneel.
This getting old stuff is problematic.

I would think the foam pad would still follow the ridges and groves of the bed.
I think I have some similar material around the house that I can test the idea with.

I stand up into the bed via the hitch step when tailgate is closed or a folding step stored in the bed when the tailgate is open
I’m walking in rhe bed, only down low to strap in rhe spare, I kneel on the tire
