Parking sensors?

I've seen people in different threads state or imply there are no parking sensors on the CT? Is that true, are there no visual or auditory alerts when backing up or parking?

When parking my Model Y it aggressively beeps at me as soon as I'm within 2 feet of something (or whatever the default distance is).

There are no actual sensors, and currently the vision based parking alert system is not active in the way it is on a vision only 3 or Y. It will presumably come in a software update like autopilot will.

I see, thanks. So when you're backing up FOR NOW in the CT, there's no indication if you're about to hit something? Or do you see a birdseye view with red lines?

I'm not sure honestly if they do that birds eye view yet. Maybe an owner can chime in. I just know they don't do the alerts yet.

Also, be aware the bumper is not the furthest point back on the truck when using the backup camera to guide yourself. The tailgate sticks out further than the bumper and you can't see it in the camera view.

Thanks. I'm just used to driving smaller cars so my biggest worry is backing up and crushing some dude in his Miata and thinking, "oh no, did someone leave a shopping cart behind me?". I don't need a vehicular manslaughter charge. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I wonder when people start to realize that the PDC which have been removed from Tesla are still desirable..

My 2021 ModelY has them and I will miss them when the inevitable trade time comes.. But in low temperatures they are all but useless. And the older cars still don’t have the vision only sensing to compensate..

Seems like a no brainer to me

I use the camera to back-in, and usually when it looks like I'm about to hit I still have about half a foot. No collision warnings however, either visual or audible.

Except, of course, for the phantom AEB collision-detection alerts. Today it was triggered by a parked car in the garage

Apparently Nissan or some other manufacturer owns the patent and IP for birdseye view. For Nissan as far back as 2007. So may just be Tesla trying to avoid that implementation and get around it.

Honestly Tesla's (aka Elon's) stubborn insistence on parts/cost reduction is far and away the most disappointing thing about all of their vehicles. Even something as simple as a $7 rain sensor is too much to ask.

Despite that I still bought the CT and a MY. I guess its unique features still made it worth it, but if they keep on this path they will lose to the competition eventually. Specifically with the CT, there is no price advantage, and they lack what most people would consider "standard equipment".

This is exactly the reason. Tesla is obsessed with cost reduction. It really confuses me. Most other car makers pay the licensing and just slap a profit margin on top of it. If customers want it they pay extra and the business makes more profit.

Across all Tesla models the only real options are related to the powertrain (speed and range) or software. Hell even if you dont pay for FSD you Tesla still bares the cost of all the CPU processing and camera's required.

Can anyone confirm if there are still no sensors? I could have sworn there was a visual indicator but maybe I just got used to my Rivian after leaving CT in service for 2 weeks ?

Cost reduction in hardware Tesla feels can be replaced cost effectively in exchange for innovative 48v architecture, 4 wheel steering, drive by wire, stainless steel construction, PowerShare etc. I’m amazed they can make the math work at $100k… after I show people all the innovative tech in this truck their typical question is: “how much did this cost, $150k?”. The parking distance and warnings will come. For now the cameras are great. I have to park within 3” of my storage cabinets to fit in my garage and haven’t had any problems.
