Phone needs to be set up as key nearly every time I lock the truck

Nearly every time my truck locks, the app says I need to set up my phone as a key. As long as I am near the truck and tap set up, it connects right away. However, if I am not right next to it, it cannot reconnect. Very frustrating considering when I walk up to the truck it won’t let me in until I take out my phone, open the app, and tap set up as key.

I tried restarting my phone and reinstalling the app. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Did you allow "nearby devices" permission (Android - not sure if same on iOS) for the Tesla app

I’m on iOS, but all settings are enabled.

I had this glitch when I initially setup my key but it went away on its own.

If it keeps happening, perhaps you could remove your physical keys from the security settings of the truck and add them again.

I think this is a cloud storage latency error on Teslas side.

I get this all the time and I turn off Bluetooth and turn it on again and the phone works, but that is even worse than what you are doing. We have this problem with our Might as well. We live in a remote area with poor cellular coverage and mediocre WiFi where the cars are parked so maybe that is related. Sometimes, if I stand by the car for a moment the phone connects.

I’ll try this. One thing to note, it seems to only happen at home.

You will need to ascertain whether it’s the truck or your phone. Get a friend or family member to pair their phone and see the results. If it works, it’s your phone. If not then it’s gonna need a ticket for service for your truck.

I've noticed that returning home becomes a networking event, since both my phone and truck will reconnect to my WiFi. This often causes a "hiccup", such as interrupting streaming music.

However, I've not had a problem with my phone key.

You can try to toggle and untoggle the "keep doors unlocked at home" setting (or whatever it's called). Can be a troubleshooting step to help reset a stuck cloud setting.

I have the same problem for a while and can't figure out how can it be fixed. I took the car to service for it twice already, and even service center couldn't figure it out. They said truck works fine and they couldn't replicate the concern....

Do you still have the issue? If no can you share how you fix it...

I do.

I read on another forum about how the bluetooth connection can get interrupted by a 2.4GHz network. They recommend changing your 2.4GHz network channel to one that is free and far away from other channels. You can see which your network has with a wifi analyzer app. I haven't tried that yet, but will when I am back from my trip later this week.

That would make sense since it reconnects instantly when I am by my truck and tap set up key. Also, so long as I am not far from my truck the key stays connected which would mean something disrupts the bluetooth connection to the car when I walk away from it.
