I had a Gateway 3V and Universal Wall Charger installed yesterday, 4/10/2024. Tesla selected Northwest Electric & Solar as the installer, and referred them to me. The Gateway seperates my house from the grid so that the truck can provide power when the grid is down, and the gateway also provides the neutral. The Universal Wall Charger is a two-way device, that can either charge the truck or enable the truck to power the house.

Northwest Electric & Solar did a great job. They kept me apprised throughout the process, and notified me when the installer, Ian C. was on the way. Ian set my expectations for what would happen during the installation, and answered all my questions throughout the process. He coordinated with PUD#1 of Snohomish to cut off and restore the grid power, and coordinated with the inspector. His work was professional, and left the work areas cleaner than when he started.

Ian had to remove all the neutrals from the breakers, and bond them together. There is a rule to bond the ground and neutral at the first point of entry, which switched from the panel to the gateway during the installation.

PUD of Snohomish pulled the meter which disconnected grid power from the house. Then Ian ran cable from the house side of the meter to the gateway, then from the gateway into my panel. He also ran cable from the charger location to the gateway, and wired the charger into a breaker in the gateway. He also installed a whole house surge protector on the gateway per latest code requirements.

I installed a 2 x 6 attached to my rafters and descending down through the sheet rock for the wall charger mount. The garage doors do not have enough space between them to mount on the wall, and I wanted it mounted from the ceiling, so the cable will be close to the charge port on the truck.

The gateway weighs about 66 pounds, so it is a bit heavy to install.

Once he connected the gateway and charger to the Internet and commissioned, I was able to add the charger to my Tesla app. Now I can see what is going on with the power between the grid, the home and the charger on my Tesla app, kind of like with a powerwall.

I have current transformers and an Iotawatt energy monitor in my panel, so he had to work around them. That orbit sprinkler box contains my energy monitor.

Total price $5.2K. Equipment provided by Tesla to Northwest electric and solar.

I received my Cybertruck vin 2 1/2 weeks ago, still waiting for delivery date From Lynnwood Tesla.

I would say you have an excellent setup! I like the idea of the whole house surge protector. You certainly had plenty of room around your electrical panel to lay eveything out nicely! Good job!

Thanks for the overview. I'm currently on schedule to have them out on the 18th. Sure would be nice if they brought my truck with them. Still waiting on a VIN. Good to hear a fellow Snohomish neighbor is getting closer to having one in the garage.

The Universal wall charger that was installed does not have the PowerShare logo on the bottom, as seen on Tesla powershare website. Is that true for others?

Does yours have the INTEGRATED J1772 ADAPTER?

Thank-you for sharing your experience and the write up.

I imagine the Gen 3 Wall Connector will most likely work. Now, I have no proof just anecdotal comments from Tesla saying that folks who had Powerwalls already installed with a Tesla wall connector (not the latest Universal) are already in a PowerShare config with no new hardware needed. That's the only reason I believe you're setup is going to work as expected once the software is released.

I think so, it is a magic dock. If you push the latch, the j-1772 comes out on the end of the NACS.

You are welcome for the write up. These forums are helpful so I try to give back.

Thanks, I believe the same, I suppose we won’t know for sure until Powershare is enabled.

Hello! looking good there. great install. I am having an issue installing power share. i have an older gateway (with 2 powerwalls) already. However, when trying to install the power share, app asks to connect to the gateway network. Problem is, my older gateway transmits its network as "teg-JRJ" but the app asks for a different name network, one that start with "TeslaGW". how do i get past this? HELP!

I speculate that this will be corrected in approximately June or thereafter when the power share updates for the truck come out.

So the installer provided some conduit, some wire, and less than one man day of labor?

And the expertise to coordinate everything, do the wiring and installation, then pass inspection in a 30 year old house.

Very cool! I got my ct a few weeks ago (Kirkland here) but haven't scheduled my powershare install yet. I want to do it, but I'm no rush. I want to take advantage of the hw included in the fs series, but I want to push out the install at least til end of year.

Anyone know anything about the deadline for this? Installer said there is no deadline but I'm skeptical
